Found this on Naval Association site , with recent topic of Tolls , I thought it appropriate , esp now , as people are on th move . Richo.
As Christmas approaches, this information may be useful!
This information came my way today...if you tow a caravan, boat or trailer, you may be in for a fine if you do so on a toll way in Queensland. I do not know how this might affect other States, but suggest you take this info onboard...
At our rally last weekend a member told us of his son, a builder, who received a $300 fine for using a trailer that was not registered with govia on a toll road.
I checked out their website and there is no mention about the necessity of registering trailer/caravans but I emailed them and was advised to do so. See attached email.
Anyone who is going to use a trailer or caravan should register that vehicle on their account.
Multiple of trailers can be registered and can be registered against multiple accounts.
I think many would be unaware of this and it may be worth circulating.
I had to contact them as the online process of registration is not fully obvious, hence the following
This is the email that I received through a Vietnam Vets group, and queried re: my post of 'Tolls' a couple of days ago. You will see that I got in touch with GOvia to check - and you DO NOT need to register vans/trailers/ski jets or whatever. They have heard of this email doing the rounds, and seem to be uninpressed with the scar-mongering that it is causing people.
They take the photo from the front, therefore the rego plate at the rear of a trailer etc would not be taken.

I too have been caught up in this scaremongering re:- Towing a trailer/car/jetski whatever. I have an RV and intend flat towing a Suzuki 4x4 behind the RV. I phoned Flowtoll, same as Govia as an operator of the toll roads bridges etc. I was told that the tow vehicle is the one that pays the toll not the trailer or towed vehicle. I also was advised to put the tag for the towing vehicle back into the Mylar bag it was sent in to make sure I was not charged for the towed Suzuki as well.
A friend of mine travels from Gosford to Yass quite often with a dog trailer towed behind her vehicle. She has been sent toll notices for the trailer and had to contact them each time to explain that the trailer was attached to the vehicle and not a separate vehicle.

Thanks everybody , I think it is one of those , that come up every now & then . I think what happens is , after you go over the "sensers" on the road . It registers & acknowledges your car , when the traileror van goes over , it Is the Next vehicle . When the scanner does not pick up toll dooverlacky , not paid , click - photo of Back plate is taken . Richo
I just recently contacted govia for two reasons,I wanted to register our suzuki which we flat tow behind motorhome and could I get our vehicle downgraded from class 3 (truck fee) to class2 (car fee). First one, the girl didn't know what flat towing was and kept asking me for the trailer rego. When i finally got through to her,she had to go to her supervisor and ask. That was fine when she came back she registered the suzuki on our tag, then the second question. She had to check again with her supervisor, they would downgrade the motorhome to class 2 but when I hooked the suzuki up to it it would be class 3 or higher because of the gross weight.I said to her how do you know the weight of the combined vehicles, she told me they had sensors to pick up the weight.I haven't tried this theory yet,and this matter is far from over.Does anyone know? Forgot to mention our rig is 4.45gvm,you only need a car licd. to drive it.
I've towed my rig on the M7 (Sydney) a few times and as I don't have an E-tag (or need for one) I just arranged payment by phoning Roam Tolling (I think it's 13 TOLL). I've only given my car rego and have not had any problems. Whether or how this applies to E tags and/or other motorways I don't know.
Maybe the Campervan/Motorhome Club can clarify this issue. They seem to be quite active in representing the interests of RVers.
In fairness to call centre operators we can't expect people who have no connection with "RVing" to be familiar with some of the jargon we use. I had not come across the term "flat towing" until very recently on this forum and had to work out what it meant by interpretation.
I do agree however that the motorway tolling agents (for want of a better term) should have provision for this type of towing as it's likely to be more common in future if trends overseas are anything to go by.
Just rang the toll company that collects tolls for crossing the Brisbane bridge on the M1. Ph:133 331 followed the automated prompts and then accepted to get casual day pass.
I waited for all the options and at the end it says to speak to an operator press 0. This got me to a human being, he set up the account online you need to Register BOTH your car and caravan/trailer.
This can also be done online yourself at www.govia.com.au using the instructions from Zoomtopz 2010 post.
However we found it much quicker to have them do it online whilst we waited. NOTE: you will need car, caravan rego numbers and your credit card when you make the call.
You will only be charged for one vehicle, if the sensors don't pick up the front vehicle it will automatically photo the back number plate. If you do happen to get charged for both just ring for a credit.
Be aware that different toll companies collect for different roads. Who collects where can be found on the Queensland Department of transport and Main Roads site, select option travel and transport, tollways and tolling for complete list.

All toll charges as of today in QLD increase I think by 4.1 per cent.
Also on using any toll charged road be awear that they are about three months behind in sending out un payed toll notices.
I purchased a second hand 4x4 Toyota Hi Ace for work purpose and three months latter I started to get these over due toll charge accounts, some going back months before I brought this vehicle. So to cut to the chase ..what a headache it all turned out to be ..phone calls after phone call to all the different toll owners, then statutory declarations for each over due notice signed by a JP ,and then more phn calls after one of the over due bills arrived with a notice on it more or less saying....WE ARE COMING TO GET YOU ..only after ringing this particular toll company was told the address on the bill they sent me to send the stat dec to was printed wrong. So it all stated over again. So all in all the bills that were sent to me was almost $500 in total and the bloke who owned the ute prior to me buying it had racked up these bills over a three to four month period. I asked why I was getting these bills when I had only purchased the vehicle after the toll dates on these bills and the answer was...Oh we are behind in our billing and because the rego number came up in your name and address that is why we send the bill to that person.....To me this system is not working. All up it has taken me over three months to try to get it sorted out and I still do not know if it has come to an end.As when I was talking to one of the call centre ladies she looked on the computer and said there was another few hundred dollars of over due fines sitting to be sent out.
