New Zealand version of the English song 12 days of Christmas.
On the twelfth day of Christmas My true love gave to me Twelve piupius swinging (maori womens' skirts) Eleven haka lessons (kamate kamate) Ten juicy fish heads Nine sacks of pipis (Shellfish) Eight plants of puha (vegetable) Seven eels a swimming Six pois a twirling (ball on end of string) Five - big - fat - pigs ! Four huhu grubs (similar to witchetty grub) Three flax kits (flax basket) Two kumera (sweet potato) And a pukeko in a ponga tree. (Pukeko bird in Ponga Fern tree)
Great!A kiwi version of the 12 days of xmas. You are right- maoris love fish heads! My girlfriend, a maori lady , only wanted the head and backbone from a 6kg queenfish that I gave her which was good, cause I kept the fillets!"Good ki ki" she said as she ate the eyes first............
There was of course a Navy version of this song... but alas, though lustily sung many times by yours truly, in this decent forum I shall pass on the details, though to tittilate the imagination there were ....Twelve queer choir boys.........

I'm an Aussie pakeha (white person) but I still miss puha and water cress from my days with my former long-term Maori partner. As far as I'm concerned there are now too many days of Christmas. Yesterday I drove my daughter to Adelaide to do her Christmas shopping, presents and food. Edithburgh to Adelaide and Gawler - left at 7.15am, home 10.30pm. I was buggered just from driving around everywhere, and spectating the frantic activity. Roll on New Year!!!

How about that CG. I am a exkiwi pakeha whose late husband was Maori. Dan passed away back in 1996, his birthday was Christmas Day so myself and my daughter both find it a bitter sweet day. Hard to be celebrating when thinking about a dad who left a 12 year old daughter. I am not a big Christmas fan and will spend the day by myself, and pop around to daughters for evening meal when they all get back from in-laws. It's become just another day to me.
I have a great Aussie poem called 12 days of harvest but its an Audio MP3 & I can't see a way to post it on here and it's too long to listen to and type out and post here
