correct oil for 4.2 ltr toyota 2005 landcruiser.

Hi all, another question for you. We look as if we will be going down the above tug.
What I would like to know is what is the recommended engine oil is and how often should it be changed [I've been told 5000 kms]. While we are at it what is the replacement kms for things as oil, fuel, air filters, etc. I guess power steering, auto box and diff, etc all come under this question. I am going to instal a cooma diesel water watch system on advice from someone who suffered the damage of water in the system, was not nice.

Any advice will be greatly valued and maybe this info is already available from some website.

Thanking you in advance.

Hi ...

Whilst I can't comment specificaly on your vehicle I can give you my approach ..

1. Always use the best quality lubricant that you can afford.

In my case when I purchased my 1995 4.2 EFI Patrol, I went to my family mechanic & asked for his advice.
He recomended PENRITE.
I changed all oils to the correct Penrite product & have continued to use them ever since.

2. Purchase a workshop manual for the vehicle & follow its recommendations on specific grades & change periodicity.

I checked that the manual agrees with the Owners Manual that came with the vehicle.  In addition when purchasing the product I check  the suppliers manual to be certain that it is recomended for my vehicle.

3. I apply the same approach to other consumables like oil, air & fuel filters.

Hope this helps

Check the vehicle handbook for all lubricants and service details.
