Torquay schoolies welcome again.

We have just completed a visit by 200 schoolies and was impressed with their behavior and friendliness while in our park. Strict control and security measures along with substantial bond identification measures gave the schoolies a safe haven to relax in when outside celebrations were complete. Parents would be happy to hear this and apart from the odd local or two, hell bent to foster the image of the schoolies that they wish to promote it was a non event in general, and as many of you are grand parents that may worry the concern here in Torquay was averted. Gives some faith in our upcoming young. The Red Frog organisation and other groups that support and look after the young school leavers contributed to make our job as park managers much easier. Look forward to next year.

Good to hear Graham and Pat,

Yes I have been impressed by a lot of the youngies, the rotten element we have in all ages tends to give the impression all are the same......I think our future is in good hands, I would hate to be a kid growing up today with all the pressures they have put on them, especially with the drug vultures that try to prey on them to sell their drugs etc.

Regards
Vic

Its actually very comforting to read that. We have had problems from "the rotten element" from the nearby High School. It becomes so that we never notice the well-behaved kids, only the troublemakers and the Police attendances.

Personally, I have great faith in the young. After all hopefully, they will be the taxpayers who fund my "advanced" years lol

You make a good point Pete we should stop bagging the young people we need them to feel great about supporting our lifestyle in our old age

We were staying near Dunsborough (WA) during their schoolies a week or so ago, and there were virtually no problems. Things were well organised and the police had a fairly visible presence, but didn't seem to have too much to do. Mind you, the local supermarket seemed to do a roaring trade in Coke and instant noodles!

It appears that the schoolies that have major events organised for them attract the other element. Boys are boys but the alcohol and drug influence at these big events will bring out the worst. Our worst breach here was a girl wanting to sneak in a new boyfriend, felt like a heel after but rules are rules. Could have lost a substantial bond for that if we were agrivated. Police in this area appear to have witnessed a quieter time than fist expected.

Children today love luxury too much.

They have execrable manners, flaunt authority, and have no respect for their elders.

They no longer rise when their parents or teachers enter the room.

What kind of awful creatures will they be when they grow up?

I wasnt replying in the negetive but a bunch of kids being of good behavior for a week dosnt tell me that group will turn out to be great community members, all to often these days these groups of people will party away for the next month or so, expect me to support them fianaclly through there next phase in life wether it be uni or the dole. They are the basic facts. I hope that there is some good people come out of the group that stay at your park, and I am sure there will be but there is going to be a damm sight more that want every thing tommorrow with little cost to them. I think you will find though that the great people of tommorow would not have been there at the park the would already be venturing onto great things.

Hey youv'e done it now, my Pat is going off her tree. Can't repeat much but she is generally disgusted with your attitude and although only 50 are prepared to wait until your self praising attitude passes on. For your info, year 12's have done the hard yards, much harder than our day. They have sights on much higher ambition than you did although in our day the oportunities were not there for all of us, depression etc.
When I left school I had many apprenticeships to choose from and chose GMH. At 50 put you in a fairly good period to achieve and the choice was yours, live with it. By the way I enjoy the banter but I hpoe your not related to Dave, enjoyed his banter too but got personal. Hope to meet you one day like many of you. Call in and say hello to Pat and I at Torquay. Don't try swimming, you may not make it. At 15, you and I have no understanding of the pressure year 12 go through.

Graham.

Sold computers through our business (built what we sold)
licenced security guard
licenced air con fitter (vehicle)
Licecenced telecomication cabler
 and the list goes on
My wife is trained in aged care with endorsment and childcare trained also
Do you think our family has ever stopped learning and studying , do you think we have had an easy ride.
So as you can see we have worked very hard to achieved, no easy ride. And again this is not personel and may one day visit your park. Gotta love debate. Please pass onto your wife my intent isnt to offend

blaze

Also will add that we have taken on other peoples children that have gone a bit wayward, they too have all gone on to good things (little things like raising my neices daughter (baby for 4 months of her first six months of life), finally got the neice on a good path. She is now settled over your way in a good relationship and a brilliant singer and a dance teacher.

And dont be suprised if I knock on your door one day and ask if you have a cleaners job because Im not to high and mighty to do that either

Pat is impressed but surprised by your attitude with the first post to young ones in general. Unfortunately our personalities may be similar, me too a maintenance fitter, special class, hows that for blowing my own bags, maintained wineries and hydraulic machinery for Clipsal. Raced offshore in yachts of course and cruised many parts of Australia, including Hobarts back in 69 and 71. I,ve lost track whether i am keeping up with you. But this forum is still a little inactive so this banter may help, at least encourage debate. You are obviously proud of your kids like we are of our own but the level of achievement doen't denote what rung they stand on in life to have been successful. Moralistic people will take society further, not relgion alone or achievement. So back your kids like my wife does, that's why I need new shoes.
You know if your first post stood alone, people would have had the wrong impression of you.Keep an eye out for a subject forwarded to the administrator called THE PERFECT CARAVAN PARK.

Now I have to add my piece and will probably get roasted for it.
Only a few hundred metres around the corner from you Technomad, maybe a bit more than a kilometre. A group of teens trashed a small resort, breaking all the poolside equipment and throwing it and food in the pool, as well as ripping the spa pool lid. Then when outside they graffitied the walls.
Now I have met some NICE teens, but the majority of them are rude, opinionated, smarta.....d sullen little s.....ts who need a good kick up the backside. And have no respect for people or their property, including in a lot of cases their own parents.

Edited for spelling mistakes and to add a lot of the good ones will have gone on to work straight out of school rather than going on a schoolies week.
I detest schoolies week and would never allow my kids to get involved if they had wanted to.

Unfortunatelly, mis information like you a peddling is what is wrong these days. Yes we heard about this incident but we are aware of other things and some facts. Number one, Were they schoolies, were they the element, the oportunistic tag alongs that are drawn to these areas. We know that it was unfortunate and it is Marg and maybe the feed of info is important that you are recieving up there because it could be bias. We have not lost the schoolie over this event so I suggest if connected to this incident wearing identification bands would not have come back to us. Nice try.
As I said before most ex year 12s are not the type to trash too much. I'm not defending all young ones.

Technomad, in saying I detest Schoolies week it is my personal opinion based on what happens up on the Gold Coast and has also happened at Lorne in the past. I have always felt that way, nothing to do with what happened around ther corner.

In connection to that incident I do know the police are looking into it as they had surveillance cameras, and my understanding is they were tagalongsd to the guests staying in the units. Do you know who they were? where did they come from? where were they staying in Torquay to get invited back by the girls staying in that apartment?
A lot of questions unanswered at this stage.
I am not sure what you mean by nice try. I have an opinion and entitled to it.

Just a few questions that should be considered.

A perfect example of insolence in teens. I was waiting to get served in Big W today. The assistant had to look around a young teen who refused to move, to call me over. I then had to lean around her to get served as she wasn't going anywhere. She was waiting for amother getting served at next checkout but had no intentions of moving out of the way so the assistant could do her job.

You may want to note in my original piece Technomad I said teens in all my post about that incident, not schoolies.

My schoolies week addition was made later as you can see in the edited as I have always detested the occasion and the behavour from previous news reports.

I am not sure what misinformation you think I am peddling as I only gave an account of the damage done. Not who did it and not if schoolies were involved.

I was talking about teens in general who definitely had some involvment.

TOOLIES ARE NOT SCHOOLIES, schoolies are 17 or 18. There are many more older  and much ruder examples to focus on and once again try and research your facts.
Not engaging any further, your attitude disappoints me.

I certainly will research my facts. I will ring the owners now.

Where did I ever mention toolies.

A pity they are not home. But as I say again. I only ever mentioned the damage, how can the facts be wrong.

My attitude will stay the same as long as teens remain the same.

Well done Graham, you're to be commended for providing a safe place for a great bunch of young people to celebrate the end of hard and stressful year.

Judging a whole class of the population such as school leavers by the actions of some is quite invalid.

For example...We see some 4wd drivers driving irresponsibly and "All 4wd drivers are hoons" or...we see evidence of some users of roadside free camps who litter the area or leave "snowflakes" in bush nearby and "All grey nomads are to blame" This sort of logic is specious to say the least but there are plenty of examples of this.

Thanks for the comments, Happywanderer is not at fault here, look at her other posts and the genuine person she is. Not meant to create enemies here, banter yes, but aggression, sometimes I don't know when to back off. Dave O taught me that.
