hi all, well been busy sorting out my shed and came across my old generator which i forgot was in there after 11yrs. just wondering if any one has one as i cant seem to get it to spark. i put in a new plug today, its the smallest one ive ever seen nkg cm6 $15.oo its great for running lights and my inverter so if any one can help please do so regards possum
hi daryl, yeah it is differant to mine alot. having trouble getting the computer to take the pics off one computer to the other so will post it up tomoro for you. my daughter to the rescue, again regards peter

Hi Peter,
Sorry to break in on a private conversation here guys, but if you're having trouble viewing jpg files (and other picture files too) suggest you download and install "irfanview" It's a freebie, not crippled, no ads, no nag screens.
Jim
PS: If the 12v dc outlet on the genny is compatible with a 2 pin 240v power plug that would be a bit dicey.
Hi Jim, The 12v is not quite the same angle BUT you could force it in to the 240V socket if you real tried, thats why i fitted a polarised plug on the lead above it. Some years ago Honda offered a generous deal of $150 trade in on a $2000 machine to try & getrid of these machines, Not a deal i was interested in as these machines are quit economical to run for lights @ runing a battery charger. Hi Daryl (and Peter),
Hadn't been following the thread that closely, just happened to see the picture and thought it was Peter's unit. From our conversation we had when we met up in Cairns I realise that you would be well conversant with these issues.
Looking more closely I can now see the slight difference in the angle of the pins, also your "work around" with the fly lead you installed.
cheers,
Jim
PS: Peter: at the risk of continuing to "poke my nose in" I'm trying to work out where the inverter you mention in your opening post fits into the scheme of things.

hi jim, yeah i will inlitten you. mine is the em300 made in about 67 and earlier than daryls. i dont have spark on mine as it was working 11yrs ago when i put it away in the shed. daryl and i are trying to sort out why it wont work. have checked out what we can and looks like it could be inside the windings, maybe hope this helps you regards peter
Hi Peter On my computer its just a box with a X in it only pics i can see on my computer are ones that have been inserted. But used the wifes computer & can see it on hers so i printed it of. The 240V side is exactly the same as my generator, the Ign side is different. The engine kill switch should have continuity to the frame when the eng switch in run position. If you disconect the 2 leads coming from the winding S-I-C & measure for a small AC voltage when cranking, then that should be ok, wont be mutch at that speed maybe 3-4V AC. Daryl
ok daryl. yeah thats getting a bit off my limits im afraid. not bad on basics but after that its for people like you. so looks liike it will go back in the shed again regards peter

I have a Honda EM300 as well. Have not powered the unit for similar amount of time. Have workshop manual and factory tools. Used to repair them for dealers as they did not have the expertise and tools. Used to get them sent from all over Aus. Needs a womens small fingers. Valve stems are approx diameter of ball point pen refill.
Reason for no spark probably find the points were left open and there is corrosion on the points which will be preventing electrical contact. Remove the points cover at the end of the alternator and and try cleaning with cardboard like off the back of a writing pad between the points contacts. If that does not work use 500 wet and dry folded over and give the point contact surfaces a polish. When storing the unit pull over on to compression so both valves and points are closed. You will need to use lead additive in the petrol if you intend using the EM300. handy mechanic Jacko

hi jacko, done all that you said and still no spark and tested other things , so looks lke it is inside with coils or wiring. thanks for the advise regards peter
hi daryl, i think that is a good idea of yours to put the manual there. maybe it will help some one out. look forwards to seeing what else you put up regards peter
Not sure about the EM500 but I have a EM300 and I'm quite sure the motor is a 2 stroke. Maybe the ignition system is different from the EM500. I have a manual that may be of some help if required. Regards
Hi, I've got a Honda Ex-500 in need of a complete overhaul. I was wondering if anyone would help me out with an electronic version of a complete workshop/service manual.

Hi.
Having a small problem with my EM300U generator. Gave it a run the other day, but after a short time I found out it was blowing oil back out the air cleaner for some reaso.
Would love som assistance, or even better, if I could obtain a workshop manual.
Whats the compression like? almost sounds like exess combustion leaking past the rings & pressurising the crankcase. Also check that the oil level is not over filled. Have sent a PM.

Hi,
The crankcase breather sounds like it is stuck ! There is a one way flap valve which controls the fumes, probably gummed up or failed. Look at that.
For a suggestion to possumeyvone. If the motor has points then you can get rid of them and fit an aftermarket module instead. One wire to connect to the wire which goes to the points. They were available some years ago. Works well, just like a modern engine!!
The crank case breather does not have a valve in it, it has positive & negative pressure pulses on the tube when cranking the engine. To be blowing oil it either has too mutch oil in the sump, or exess combustion leaking past the piston rings.

Hasnt been a problem before, but my fist thought was rings, but will prob pull it apart to check, but love to find a workshop manual for it, before i attempt it.
