Hello All just need some info on electric brakes after towing the van for a little while the wheels and brakes on the van are quite hot , is this ok or should I have them checked.
I too will be on the road for real very soon, In fact I just joined up for many reasons and todays priority is to see what I can learn about electric breaks. I figure that they are probably one of if not the most important feature of a van. You have gotta be in control.. My two cents worth is.... Get 'em checked.
Happy trails. Ham

Cliff. If your wheels are hot then it would appear your brake controller and/or barkes have not been adjusted properly. It could also be a problem with the wheel bearings. The wheels should be no more than slightly warm, unless you've just descended a mountain. What brand and type of brake controller if any? When were the brakes and bearing last serviced and by whom? Cheers, ozjohn

The LED light on the controler should show if the brakes are comming on without being manually applied. Brakes should be warm under normal use & like said hot if just done a steep descent. Over adjusted van brakes. Van hand brake left on? If wheel hub & bearings have not been serviced for a long period of time the hub seals may have leaked some grease out onto the brake linings, A small amount will cause them to drage on &/or be aggressive, a lot of grease will cause them not to work at all. You need to look at how much you used the brakes in that trip, controller set to high will make the van brakes do most of the work, Also could be a faulty controler.
