I know its only a tv show but the message rings home so true

does any one here watch the tv show on 7 , called packed to the rafters?

last week it showed a main character being killed in a car accident because
she answered or used her mobile phone, it just brings home how things can change in an instant,  the other day my sister was driving her car, me in it and we nearly got cleaned up buy another driver not paying attention..
Im no expert driver and dont clame to be one, nowdays I turn off my mobile when driving and only use my gps when i really need too and ipod on long trips,
please just take it easy on the roads out there...

You are so right Milo. I still see people, mostly young females texting as they are driving. If I am in my work vehicle I give them a blast on the siren. I think it is a matter of "it will never happen to me".

I know what you mean Milo.  It's unbelievable the number of people I see whenever I have to go anywhere.  Some days it seems as though every second driver is on the Mobile.

I never answer mine, until I have stopped off the road.  If whoever calls me can't wait that long, too bad.

Cheers,
Sheba.

If i can I pull over if my mobile rings or as soon as I can then just check who called & ring them back if I have to.

As for the GPS, if needed I set the route before I go anywhere then listen to the instructions which are as little a distraction as the person in the passanger seat talking to you. I find it is safer to have the GPS turned on as you don't get distracted as much looking for street names etc so can concentrate more on watching the traffic plus it warns you often if you go over the speed limit which may happen at the odd time a speed change sign is overlooked (and I'm sure everyone has done that at least once before).

Cheers

Jon

Is it wise to scare the s..t out of someone when there behind the wheel of a car? especially when presumably it would be a young experienced driver who only has one hand on the wheel?

Truth is stranger than fiction. I think the story line was spot on and very relevant.
Then there is the yobbo with ear buds in his ears blasting his brain with senseless rhythm at indecent volumes.
They can't hear the traffic around them, and I doubt they care. They can't even hear their own car, so they don't know if things are going wrong.
They have a boot full of speakers, lights and buttons on the dash they never use, except to impress their yobbo mates.
I don't use my phone in the car. The caller can wait. I set the GPS before I take off.
Too many distractions, among too much traffic on some substandard roads.
I'm busy enough dodging road trains and other travellers.
Please be safe everyone.

I reckon they'd bounce off Rosy and her smart bar too. I feel safe within her panels.
No frills or gadgets - just a good truck.

I'd rather they change their underwear than me or my colleagues getting overtime pulling them from a wreck!

Well it wont happen to me - after we travelled full time last (12 years ago), I threw the mobile in a garbage bin.  I thought then it wasnt worth the expense, and still believe it today.  Call me an old fogie if you like (I am actually) but I dont want to be contacted every minute of the day and night.  The world wont stop turning just because I want to sit under a tree and sip a stubbie in peace and quiet lol

i watch that show religiously , if i miss it im like grumpy lol , but yes i too agree it certainly was putting a good message out there wether they listen is another thing though, we see hoons here on the road all the time, in fact the other day on the bruce highway cruising along from caloundra to take the roys road turn off along the bruce highway near beerwah there was this blue car it had a woman driver she drove up the back side of everyone till theymoved over she got stuck behind
a ute, and was going side to side of the ute to see what the hold up was she also had two guys in with her on in front one in the back, we couldnt get close enough or i would of taken the rego plate.

this continued for a while, then the ute moved into a diff lane only because she drove him to it then when she got up to the lady that was driving in the right hand lane she realised it was her that was the last one in her way so she got in the left lane and gave the woman a closed fist shake out her window, then sped off back into the right hand lane again.

it was frightening to watch and i would say the erratic behaviour was most definetly drug use or
goodness knows what.

i only wish the police were around when they are realy needed instead of sitting there vehicles along side a road waiting for somebody to speed , get out there on the roads i say .

I seem to remember an accident in Brisbane several years ago, where a young lady had her music so loud in her car, that she didn't hear the siren of a fire truck. Unfortunately for the driver of the fire truck, and the young ladies family, she was killed.
