1998 we were there, back a couple a months ago I was looking at paper photographs of that awesome Cape York trip and thinking I might scan them and make a slide show. One day.

Okay to pull this in. It is in Merriwagga. This memorial is next to the memorial of Mrs. Barbara Blain. In the area around Merriwagga you have the Black Stump Tank, the Black Stump Well and Swamp. The story of Mrs. Blain goes that her husband had left her to set up camp whilst he attended to the animals and whilst he was away Mrs. Blain's clothing caught on fire and she perished and her husband on returning thought her body looked like a black stump. The memorial pictured represents the hardships of pioneering times. Have not been there but will put it on my list for next we're down that way.
