The Cooper Ferry

Hi all ,
Just got back from a quick trip between road closures due to rain up the Birdsville track for a ride on the Cooper ferry.
Water everywhere ,flowers magnificant and the best feed of big blue claw yabbies in years
Great!
Cheers,
Mary

Life vest on a ferry. That's a worry.
An historical moment to treasure. Almost once in a century event.
Is it still busy out there?

Life vest for everyone even operators-Regulations?
It's really just a couple of pontoons with an outboard each side.
I thinks i would probably worn the vest I took if they weren't provided!
it is apparently 4m deep in the middle and quite wide-too far for me to swim without something to keep me above water.
Was pretty quiet only passed 1 other vehicle on the way up but while we were there a few more turned up.No wating to speak of .
Just wanted to do the trip for the fun /historical reasons.
loved it!

I understand that historical reasoning. Is the ferry on the Birdsville Track west of Walkers Crossing?
What a year it has been.
Even this country, up along the overlander highway, is the top of the Lake Eyre Basin, the head of the Channel Country catchment, according to a sign I passed today. I was very surprised the catchment is so vast.
Isn't this country of ours wonderful?
