Sad news I'm afraid. Just as things were starting to dry out nicely, down it came again last Friday 8/10. 60mm in 1hr & total of 75mm o/nite.
Had one brave visitor who I advised not to come & guess what, hopelessly bogged his V8 Landcruiser with Kedron van behind & took a couple of hours with the tractor to get it all out.
One thing is for sure, the driver learnt quickly that 4wd doesn't mean you won't get bogged, & now has some photos to remember it!!
320mm for Dec & already close to 200mm for Jan & it's only half way through, so apart from everything being saturated, I've managed to dodge the flooding pain, unlike so many other poor sods, but needless to say the whole area is one to be avoided for at least the next month, & that's IF it doesn't rain anymore, but I wouldn't like to be betting the farm on that to happen. Not a good time to be travelling as I've just returned from 2 months in Vic & the flooding is so wide-spread that unless you have to travel, give it a miss for at least the next month or so.
Just one thing I forgot to mention, as Doug's place is a Wildlife Sanctuary Dogs and Cats are a DEFINITE NO NO!!
That's great Ma! That's the best thing about camping in National Parks too. No dog poo, no dogs c.ocking their leg on everything, no yapping! And no worries for young families.

Not all dogs behave in this manner Beth.
That's true. I've seen so much of this on my travels though, that I cringe when someone pulls up with a dog. But I know, I shouldn't tar them all with the same brush. And it's not the dogs fault anyway, it's the owners.
Agree with both Beth and Boroma, I travel with my dogs, but am very aware others may or may not like dogs so keep them well contained, and get annoyed when others just let their dogs off leash and go about their business..and have also travelled and am disgusted about the rubbish and drunken behaviour of people and how some parents think it is ok to set up camp sit back and drink and let their kids run amok, and let other campers keep an eye out for their young ones... many camping spots have had to step over empty cans, disposable nappies etc.. its a shame everyone just cant take a bit more care and show respect to others. Again its not the dogs or kids fault, its their owners/parents ...

Yes Honi, the rubbish in some free camps is particularly disgusting. We stopped at a truck stop on our way to Charters Towers, and there was no bin, so everyone had just tossed it, instead of taking it with them til they found a bin. Toilet paper too,,eeewww!
yes its like if one person leaves rubbish that gives others the right to leave theirs there as well, remember years ago camped at remote cape dommett in the East Kimberley, there was a pile of rubbish taller than me!! couldn't believe such a beautiful remote spot and spoilt by this rubbish, just can't understand some people.. sorry got off topic for the free camp at dougies, sounds like a beaut spot.
