Stanage QLD - just back

Management and I are just back from Stanage in Qld.  To get there go 75 k's north of Rockhampton then turn right and go 100 k's of dirt road.  The place is just stunning, and the camping is free (Esplanade park) and a few other places.  It is midgie country, but where north of N.S.W isnt?   You must take in your own drinking water, though there are tanks in the park there is no guarantees that they will hold water when you get there.    There is a dam on the way to Barra Lodge, 50 metres past the turn off on the left, rough water but good enough for showers and washing "camping clothes" A donation to the Stanage township, through the shop, though not compulsory, should be made for the free campsite.  The fishing is supposed to be good but alas wasnt when we were there.  A word of warning though ring the shop before you go in to see what the condition of the road is (07 4937 3145)   When we arrived it was beautiful.   After 8 inches of rain when we left if wasnt so good.   will attach a pic of two they dont do justice to the place as we couldnt get up to the top of the hill after the rain....
