tv antenna's with a pop top van

hi, if and when i get my pop top campervan,
whats the easiest way to add a tv areal to it?
I saw one guy that had his permantly on the back of the van
i know of the wingard ones like my dad has in his van but i dont know
how well that will go with  a campervan,
I thought of satelite but there pretty expensive i think?
 and take up alot of room on the roof?
what else is out there?

Hi Milo
My van has one that clips into a clamp thing on the side of the van and stands up about 3 foot above the roof. I have seen ones that people clamp to the drawbar and they use a pool cleaner pole to raise the aerial way up high.

Watched a T.V. show earlier today about some kids trying to live off the land. One young male said something interesting.

and you can make a lot more sense out of a fire than off the idiot box.  We haven't turned ours on for nearly 2 months now and don't miss it one little bit.

That's the one I got from Dick Smiths  designed for vanners fits into the poptop lock down clamps works fine. I also can mount mine into a pool cleaner pole for extra height if required  so simple to install and get up and running

Mines similar to Allara's also, but I've got a plastic clip screwed to the pop top. The antenna pole clips into to hold the pole steady.

Hello Milo...
I've had four different TV aerials on my pop-top van.  Two were useless, one was pathetic and the latest (one week old) looks like a winner.  Two were plastic rod contrivances shaped like the letter T - over a hundred dollars each and they were the useless ones.  The third was shaped like a dinner plate and cost about $70 at Bunnings.  It was called "Antsig" or something similar.  It was the pathetic one.

Last week in Carnarvon WA I bought one that looks like being a beauty.  It's called an "Aussie-Sat"  and it rotates to get a good picture by means of a remote control that you operate from inside the van while you are sitting watching the picture.  Pretty pricy at over $200 but I'm hoping....ashamed.gif

I use an "Explorer" antenna shown below.  It's bolted to a length of anodised aluminium tube and clipped to the side of the van with a couple of tube holders, both available at marine warehouses.  The mounting on the tube is such that it can be easily changed for vertically polarised signals.

The antenna is supplied complete with built in booster, cable with "screw on" connectors (F type), and a "through the wall" feed through and power injector (to power the booster), plus a 240v plug-pak and 12v dc cord for the power injector.

We have a "Happy Wanderer' which is like Big Al describes above. Plastic tube in a T shape which can be swivelled vertical. Ours is fantastic.
 We have the accompanying book which tells us how to set it in nearly every town in Australia.
We have a booster attached as well.
 Most of the time we pick up more channels than others in the immediate area. These can be purchased at most caravan or camping shops.
