Have been using a uniden for many years with no problem.
If you can get a hand held as well , very usefull when parking van on site & hitching up, voice directions are far better than hand signals.
Good luck.

g.m.e. have a new mini radio out now, the size of a beer coaster, if you want to save room, about $300.

I use an I Com 440. Great unit and easy to mount out of sight

I have had a GME 4000 for over 10 years (3Veh) and I purchased second hand.   I have had no trouble at all.   GME are designed and made in Aust and parts are generally avail.   The best range (Simplex) is 45Km between vehicles.   Icom also is also is a good brand.

Don't forget to either get something cheap or one that will be able to be converted to the new 80 channel frequency allocations. They will probably be in within 3 years. Consult your nearest reputable supplier.

Thank you everyone for all your replies and tips for the radios. Seems to be a choice between GME and ICOM now.
