Given we are on the road full time we certainly need to be covered, I just checked the Ambulance Victoria website and we "receive 100% cover Australia wide".

Qld includes their ambo coverage in the residents' rates. I suppose renting residents are thereby covered with their rental payments.
But, I don't own property to pay rates on.
When I was a member in WA I had national coverage. I think most state memberships cover the member wherever they are.
It's only Qld which seems to do it this way.
As it happened I did require ambo transportation once, but nothing was sent out later.
So I guess, while you're in Qld you're covered, but are Queenslanders covered everywhere in Oz?
That is the question. Who's going to research the answer?

As a WA Pensioner I simply send the Ambulance bill along with my pension number to St. John's in Perth and they pay the account for me regardless of which state I am in.

Then again, I'm a nomad with no fixed place etc.
My car and van are registered in WA, my drivers licence is SA, my postal address is SA, and I'm currently in Qld.

I HAD AN ACCIDENT IN W.A. AND WAS COVERED BY MY PRIVATE HEALTH FUND, MEDIBANK PRIVATE IN NSW. NOT SURE ABOUT PENISONERS BUT WILL FIND OUT SOON WHEN I BECOME ONE,

We are not a member of any ambulance fund at all, as pensioners we just send the bill and pension number to ST. John's and they pay it.

Oh? I had membership as a Disability Pensioner is WA. No one told me not to. Bugger!
I'll do some homework for my own peace of mind. It would be a big bill and enough to make me terminally ill if I got caught out.
The Patient Transport Scheme works a little differently in Qld than in WA as well.
I don't know about the other states.
In WA "Patient Assisted Travel Scheme" (PATS) for commercial flights from remote and rural areas, not using Flying Doctor, transport to city health facilities is covered 100%, taxi vouchers are issued for transport to the doctor or hospital, and back to the airport. Accommodation is partly paid up to a set amount which I'm not sure of now.
In Qld airfares are paid in full, no vouchers for taxi or transport costs at all, and $30/night off or accommodation outside the hospital. eg if your addmission is deferred or procedure is cancelled and you need a bed for a night or two while you wait.
I'm guessing each state has it's own rules. They do for everything else.
Isn't this state/national thing fun. We all have to learn as we travel.
The more information shared, the better informed we will all be, I hope.

According to the NSW Ambulance website, the students should be covered by their school group if the school has taken coverage. Obviously not in this case.
The other option is they will be covered by the family's ambulance subscription in the ACT, by reciprocal arrangement between NSW and the ACT.
Private health cover does not automatically include ambulance cover, it's extra.

Each state/territory has its own rules, and it would probably pay us all to familiarise ourselves with them. Everything you need to know is on the websites, ambulance australia and you can contact them if you need more information.

Whenever our grandies go on school excursions the permission note that they bring home CLEARLY states that all medical attendances including ambulance is the sole responsibility of the parents.
