Had a look in my Coast to Coast catelogue & couldn't find the model that you quoted.

They do list a Dometic B3300 roof top that is reverse cycle.

In my humble opinion .. I would go for a reverse cycle model.

I have had an Aircommand reverse cycle on my Jayco since 1999 & it is great ... The heater function is invaluable when we go south.

In the rare occasions that we use a heater, at night I turn off the reverse cycle unit, and set up a $15 heater fan on the floor with the switch close to the bed. In the morning I switch it on until the foor is warm enough & then go & turn on the heater function of the A/C & turn off the heater fan.

The heater fan is great for personal heating but lousy for heating a space whilst the reverse cycle A/C is the opposite.

For me it is a no brainer ... as I said earlier ... go for the reverse cycle option.

A reverse cycle has a heating as well as a cooling function.

How they achieve this varies according to the maker ... but that's another story.

Hi Roger.
your going to get plenty of cold days in your travels. the reverse cycle heating option is supposed to be one of the most economical forms of heating you can get.

Dometic are crap and cannot be repaired. Dometic use a lay down compressor and you cannot buy spares. Buy a new complete air conditioner. Had fitted an inverter split system in new van and is great. Inverter system was $749 is quiet and cools van properly. Install by van maker was $400 including electrical and gas pipe. 1/2 price of roof top rubbish and works.

I agree with Martin, Dometic roof mounted a/c is a pile of crap.

I have one on my van ONLY because of time restraints when we ordered the van. I would much prefer the inverter split domestic system. Quiet and efficient. Exactly the opposite to the Dometic.

In cold nights or mornings, I light the oven & leave the door open, I have given up on the heating from the Dometic. Cooling is not a lot better either.

I had a dometic put in the roof of my poptop and as a heater its ordinary but as a cooler it's brilliant. All van ac is dubious, do the math; in 1 square meter in sunlight the sun is pumping 850 watts (of heat) onto the surface therefore to equal that you need 850 watts per sq metre of cooling. Check the wattage of any van AC usually 2400 watts is the upper limit. So to get cooling divide the power of your AC in watts by the surface area that the sun heats @ 850 watts sq /m. You will soon see you are in a no win situation. Forget the insulation, it's too thin in Vans to be effective....

For heating in the caravan by far the best is the diesel heater. Not cheap, but it is certainly worth having one installed as the van is built, though they can be retro fitted.

We have the unit sold by Dometic with the electronic control fitted right next to the bed.

Magic on those cold nights/frosty mornings.

if I was placing an aircon in Little blue it would be reverse cycle, doesn't cost much more and is well worth it

Interesting website, but to be honest, my enquiry was purely innocent one.
You see, Disco Duck and his shipmate Ibbo are a couple of GN Forum members who have that wonderful gift of exercising our 'chuckle muscles' from time to time.
They are ex 'Sailors' (Navy) I believe, and as your nickname has a maritime connection to it, I quite innocently thought you may have had a similar background.

Goo day,
I have a Dometic B3000 Plus aircon on our 21' van! We try to get it to function but the E1 code come on every time! It refers to an internal thermo prober or thermo replacement batteries! Just can't find the battery location on any other indication on how to replace them. Can anyone on here help? Never heard of replacement thermo batteries before! This is not the AA batteries on the remote but batteries inside the aircon unit! Thanks in advance!

Crikey I forgot about this 6 year old thread.

My comments above still stand, we have a new van on order now for delivery next month and it will NOT have a factory fitted a/c.

I am going to fit a Panasonic domestic 3.5kw household split system after delivery.
