Thanks for that info justcruisin. I have good friends who live in Gladstone and travel up there regularly. I'll be there next April and again a bit later in the year so I've put it on my "to do" list.

Hi Brian and Kerry,

go to http://www.ozatwar.com/ozcrashes/qld89.htm also google "beautiful betsy". I'd never heard of it until reading this post. (thanks, "justcruisin")

Don't know anything about Kroombit Tops other than having seen turn offs to it from the Dawson Highway near Biloela, and from the Many Peaks Road just out of Calliope. I think it's in the Calliope Range area.

I've emailed a friend in Gladstone who is familiar with that area to see if he has any more knowledge.

Its a plane crash from the last war time, much easer to google Beautiful bettsy and rear than to describe it .

it is located east of Cannia Gorge .My sister was up that way a little earlier than us , the info & council at Monto was not real helpful as with maps etc .

The cav/park at Cannia gorge ,[vg park,,,,,,,,, thats the one right in the  gorge] has a mud map ,,prefer paper ,its easer to carry ,of the area, its a full 4x4  day trip ,out accross private prop, gates etc ,to leave as found.

The MAP must be returned to the  office on return from trip.
This is a conformation of your return to the park

They
dont need to organise a unnecessary search for you.as this is remote mountain country, dont panic  , its easy enough with this map ,
& Cannia is a good location to do the trip from.

Enjoy & respect .

Hi Cruisin, we live in Boyne Is./ Tannum Sands area (near Calliope) and have been to the site several times, its a great day trip, Kroombit Tops is very nice,4wd only. Time hasn't been very kind to the wreck though-some of us know how that feels- but it's easy to see why it remained lost for 50 years. It's easiest access would be from Calliope, just out of Gladstone and anyone there could point you in the right direction
