It always amazes me when I see the "happy campers" set up camp in the van park, and spend the rest of their day finding signal for the dish.
The next day, or the day after they pack up camp and move on.
I "listen" to a lot of TV, but hardly sit and watch it. I just don't get the dish TV thing.
But to each his/her own I suppose.
Satellite dishes are everywhere. I have no idea what they watch on the service it provides, but to me it seems to defeat the purpose of getting out there among nature and the wildlife.

Oh, by the way, allow me to welcome you to Nomads Rog and Gab.
I hope you have safe and happy travels, with or without that dish thingy. Cheers Chris

You're flying in the face of reason there, brickies.

The prevailing attitude in all things caravanning/camping/motorhoming etc. is:

"Be reasonable, do it my way."

I suppose one could always set up Foxtel and watch the National Geographics and Discovery channels. Good way to learn about nature whilst sitting in the shade of the van. LOL

Talkin about those dishes  Iwas asked to put my awnning down as it was troubling her reception, in a nice way i said ummmm  get an antenna like most have and get a signal , but we still spent happy hour with them .
Ya gotta laugh

you can put up your sat dish and with the foxtel card and a suitable decoder box (one that accepts two cards) you can view it anywhere, it will be on a different satelite to the one that is described in your sat dish setup (optus d9) so check with your foxtel supplier which sat they use

to get other signals from other states you will have to go through the television broadcasting rightsd of each individual state and fax them the request to view their telly as you travel through, this will be on a different sat again to foxtel

I carry all equipment necesary to recieve sat telly but I dont ever use it, why I hear you ask because at the time it was "shiny" and I am highly attracted to gadgets"

evileyeevileyeevileye  We have travelled the outback for months without tv.

Every night we watched the SKY channel , we called the night show the milky bar kid ,
he never failed to deliver.
Throw in some satelites &  for a bit more colour add space junk burning up on the way down .

Doesn't get much better.smilesmilesmile

yep internal or external, hills or valleys will kill your signal though so it's in the "unreliable" basket

I'm with you JustCruisin. There is NO better show than the one out there at night. Why watch a show with one or two stars when you can see one with millions??

It is particularly good for me because I don't have to try to follow the plot and can get on with other things. Not that I have lost the plot................I'm just not too interested in looking for it.

It certainly is up to the individual and I guess if I spent lots of time in caravan parks I would probably consider having some sort of TV but out in the bush................. NOWAY for me!!

Gee we all digressed a bit, didn't we?
To give a sort of answer - many carry the dish on the front or back of the van when they're travelling.
Most then fit it to the tripod and spend a lot of time looking for that elusive signal.
Believe me, they're everywhere, and I'm sure you will get advice from where you buy it, and lots of other travellers about the most practical place to carry it while on the road, and the best way to set it up when you park.
Some motorhomes have a small dish fitted on the roof and works similarly to the wyngard TV antenna.
Once again there are many configurations, and reception will always depend on where you are in relation to the satellites etc.
I personally have enough trouble with the free to air telly.
Safe and happy travelling. Chris
