without knowing all details including year, model, engine capacity I too find it very hard to work out a capacity for your vehicle
however I do own one and have towed with it, I try to keep my weight down on our camper as she is already overweight and underpowered, we tow "squeeky" our "supply" trailer, we have towed her in excess of 35,000 kilometres on various sojourns including a couple around australia
little squeek would only weigh in at around 350 kilo's and that is probably as much as I would put behind OUR camper, we only have a little 2 litre petrol under the hood
even with a larger engine I would keep the weight down to under 500 kilo's (roughly 6x4 trailer with a little gear onboard)
although I have seen them towing largish boats I do wonder about the longevity of the mechanics
According to RACQ Vehicle Towing Mass Guide it will have a 1,400 kg maximum tow weight. The ball weight could be 140 or 120 kg depending on the exact model. In the conditions column it says "Load level hitch required."
Download the file and check out the exact model.

Thanks for that Peter D, I guess that would be for a bare van though and not one fitted as a motorhome/campervan? Still I should be able to tow a light-ish trailer with a little scooter, bike and k9carrier and a few other bits and pieces ok I should think. That is good to know! I looked it all up in the vehicle handbook and all that says is tow within the vehicle capabilities! Without actually telling you what they might be, perhaps the van originally came with a crystal ball?!!

Apology - I got interrupted whilst posting. I was going to post some other weights but neglected them. On that PDF document I linked you to are GCM & GVM figures (gross combination mass.) Run your rig over a weighbridge in travelling trim to check your compliance with the GVM. Then subtract that weight from the GCM. The weight of trailer you can tow will be the lower of the figure you have derived or the tow load specified by Toyota.

the camper is already loaded enough, dont ask it to carry much more, I've seen Dave's setup and it's brilliant but as he states his is only a small motor, I wouldnt go any bigger than 500 - 700 kilo's towing behind, not sure if the standard towing weights are relevent anymore once the camper conversion is made
as Humpy states the normal towing specs do not come into a camper conversion, to get acurate details I would think a trip to a roadworthy checkpoint would be in order, I would stick with towing a maximum 6x4 trailer with a medium load of no more than 650 kilos all up
Thanks again Techies! I only wanted to tow a small trailer 6x4, with a oz tent, bike and k9 carrier for taking the dogs out, perhaps a small scooter, and that is about it. I would use the trailer as a sort of small dog run on wheels if I am parked up and working so the boys had shade, really good air flow and could be safely locked up.

I like this particular article It gives me an additional input on the information around the world Thanks a lot and keep going with posting such information. I appreciate the concern which is been rose. The things need to be sorted out because it is about the individual but it can be with everyone. The initiative taken for the concern is very serious and need an attention of every one. This is the concern which exists in the
society and needs to be eliminated from the society as soon as possible.
