Would the healthcare System be better off without Idiots? or Basil Visits the Opthalmologist....

So my annual appointment was this morning. This bloke calls everyone "Cobber", I think he has a Chips Rafferty complex.....

So we are going through the preamble and he says "Cobber now I want you to read the smallest line on the eye chart you can" Now Basil in his roll as Cobber has already checked out the bottom line as he was led into the room so he recalls it from memory and reads it out: E-A-G-L-E-O-P-T-I-C-A-L-S-Y-D-N-E-Y. "Chips" leaps up and sprints over to the chart to read it and says, "not to bad for a nutcase but you couldn't rememeber the last line".... Cobber says there is no last line thats fly poo where upon "Chips" LICKS HIS INDEX FINGER AND TRIES TO WIPE THE FLY POO AWAY....

Thank God I only have to see him annually......

So how much did this little appointment cost?
I had to see one of these cobbers recently and it cost me $228, pension or no pension.
Gee this health thing is only affordable to the affluent. Lucky I have a nest egg to dip into.
I got about half refunded from Medicare.
It doesnt pay to get sick if you're old, disabled, or on any kind of benefit. You just can't afford the medical attention required to maintain your health.
Just at the time of your life when you're likely to need more medical attention to keep upright and breathing. Bugger! Keep well. Cheers Chris

Ahhhhhhhhhhh well Granny this littlebit of gobbeldegook was at the expense of the tax paying public via my Goverment gold mine card (GGMC) that is issued after great and lengthy discussions with Indian/Celonese beaureaucrats working for DVA ( Love acronyms) for returned service persons who have been deemed to be TPI....
I should add that "Chips" then went on to give my eyes a through going over with the yellow light, the red light and the green light.... Finally pronouncing my distance vision to be "excellent" but wants me to consider a "minor" surgical proceedure to correct the presbeteriorism I have....

I have an innate fear of eye surgery without being knocked out. This is very fine work done with a scalpel not a laser. He wont sedate me so I'll just have to stick to glasses for close up work.... so I guess it gets a thumbsdown.gif from me.....

I don't blame you Basil. Anything to do with my vision scares the sh.t out of me.
I had laser on both eyes for acute glaucoma a few years ago. So far it has recurred.
I was terrified. It was quick, effective, uncomfortable but painless, and I flew home to Pt. Lincoln that afternoon with antibiotic drops for the next week.
Now I have floaters but no tears, so far. Another fear about my eyes.
We have to look after those 2 very important things, and lots of medical issues can affect our vision as we get older.

On a positive note, I called my private health provider to query if I could claim some of the balance of my very expensive, private opthomology experience. There was nothing to claim, but the very kind lady has held bypassed a monthly payment toward my insurance contributions.
It's not such a bad world, I suppose. If the private sector can do these things, why can't the public sector do them?
