Solar Pumps

For a water feature. Anyone had any experience with these things the specs sound quite feasable. Only want to run a small fountain in a backyard pond....
One for the solar affianadoes...

Basil, a 3W solar panel is tiny and won't drive much of a pump for very long, or put much charge into a battery. It does not tell us what the pump draws.
It does say 4Ahr battery..... and "control system with battery",.......but doesn't actually say the 4Ahr battery is included.....and you might expect the control system to have it's own AA battery.

That said, it is pretty cheap, but "if it looks too good to be true, it probably is".....

Cheers,
Peter

a 3 watt solar charger would run your battery for maybe 3 hours if you dont use the lights, with lights I would say maybe 11/2 hours after a full 6 hour sun burst

I wouldnt bother, go 240 and grab a reasonable setup

The only problem with mains or 12VDC is getting the power to the pond.... Yard is all concrete and digging that up precludes an underground supply at a sensible cost.

Spoke to the guys at "Aqua Viva" local pond people and they have a solar setup for $180 which has a remote panel and pumps 300L/ph to 1.2 m which to my way of thinking is exacary what I need, I'm not trying to recreate Niagra just enough tinkling water to soothe the nerves....

we had those solar lights for a while and they are good but the little batteries dont last long and then the solar thingy on the top gets a milky "film" over it and ceases working, maybe you could take them apart and clean them, I just ditched them and went 240 stainless (same as the bollards seen in c/parks) workj very well and nary a problem

the solar pump setup sounds like the go, I keep forgetting that if I have to go through concrete to install anything then I grab my "quickcut" and just do it, I apoligise for being flippant about placing 240, Basil

I have a little "turbo cut" great for tiles and pavers...
Yeah the old milky film..... These are glass panels, I think the milky film only grows on the epoxy covered.... But the batteries yeah they die fairly quickly but I find that if you replace them with the NIMH ones they last a long while.
