Dixons Caravan Park & Roadhouse Pt Hedland WA Burns Down - 10.6.2009

The subject caravan park burn down yesterday, I don't have any further details at present but by the pics it looks like it won't be opening too soon again if ever.

I'll try to post some pic's in Sharing Photos, but will have to see if I can do it first.

Some more info from The West Australian Newspapers report;

http://www.thewest.com.au/default.aspx?MenuID=77&ContentID=147365

Also some additional comments from a contact I have up there;

"Yeah the fire happened on Wednesday arvo.  Apparently, someone was welding in a shed attached to the roadhouse part of the complex which had fuel and chemical in the shed and caught fire and spread  throughout the whole building.  All fire brigades available in Hedland including BHP's fire truck attended the fire.  Totally destroyed the building.  Lucky it didn't spread to the fuel bowsers and tanks, then there would have been an almighty fire then.

I drove past there today and they were already tearing it all down.  New owners had only just taken over two weeks ago."

Pt. Hedland can't afford to lose any caravan parks. Hedland South Park was purchased by Fortescue Mining so they could set up a workers' village. the local council wouldn't release any new land for the development.
There's the Cook Point and Black Rock, although this park isn't very active or well maintained.
To add to WA's tourism woes, the Kimberley Quest was destroyed in an explosion on Wednesday night, while it was in dry dock.
It's being investigated by the Arson Squad.
Anyone booked to take a cruise around the Kimberley coast any time soon?
It's a tragedy for the Broome operator who has worked very hard to present an outstanding, high quality, memorable experience to their customers.
Nothing is forever. The best time to do anything is now. Chris
