For those people who haven't visited Paronella Park before, put it on your list of things to do in FNQ. Fantastic place to spend a day wandering around the grounds, not cheap at $30pp but you get a day and night tour and it even includes a powered site in the adjacent caravan park. It is advisable to book ahead if you want to stay 07 4065 3225. Highly recommended.
Off topic a little, have rung work this morning asking for another month off, should know tommorrow if approved.
Don't take life too seriously.... No one gets out alive
KIA Sorento CRDi EX ( Ebony black) with 5 hex chrome plated tire air valve covers, Coramal Sunsheild, Elcheapo GPS, First Aid Kit, full KIA toolkit & Yellow lenses on the Foglights......
Its good mate, and also may I recommend you visit the Ingham cemetery The mausoleums and inscription are something to be seen there is also a pets cemetary in the vicinity, dont remember exactly where but that is also worth a visit
Thanks for the encouragement. I've been tossing up whether to do Paronella or not. Will it still cost me $30 if I don't park up there? I just want to go for a drive from Cairns but I don't want to drag the van down there when I have business here in town for a while yet. What do you reckon? Cheers Chris

We spent a day and a half there & that wasn't enough. Really loved it.
I don't know about bush camps in the area, but the $30 goes to ensuring that this momument to a guy's romantic dreams/folly, remains for posperity.
I can't remember what we paid back in around 2001. But whatever it was it was good value.
I was a bit worried when it got a bit of a doing over in one of the recent NQ wet seasons. I thought that it might have been put out of action.
One can only immagine its splendor in its heyday, with grand balls for all the folk from far & near, and magnificent fountains & gardens (was there an early cinema?). The hydro electric system is a fantastic relic... well before its time?
Pity about the lack of concreting expertise by the DIY but wonderfully sdkilled builder. But love it anyway!
Don't hesitate ... find a reason to go there.
Re Cemetries ....
I often stop near country cemetries & go for a leg stretch while SWMBO makes a cuppa.
It is amazing what you find..
I really love the old convict era ones where the headstone inscriptions often pull no punches. They tell what is maybe the real story. Of course it is hard to beat Norfolk Is or Tassy headstones.
I spent at least half a day in the Broome cemetry .. Am I twisted or something?
I remember one on a wind swept headland where there was a very old thick green glass champagne bottle laying beside the grave. It was covered in barnacles & things .. so I carefully put it back beside the now illegible headstone. I pondered the tale associated with it.
One can only immagine the sad tales that must surround many, especially those where several young children are buried, often followed shortly after by the mother. When I find these I stop and reflect quietly for a bit.
God I wish I was a writer like Crusin' Granny!

The Turbine for the Hydro electrics has been refurbished in Germany and is scheduled to be installed Sep/Oct this year. When refitted it will once again supply power to the park.
Hi Gary & Kerry, what would be the nearest town to Paronella Park and the best way to get there please, I have seen it on TV but hope to go there one day in the not too distant future.
Cupie, we are also cemetery nuts, a good local history lesson in each of them, about the names of people and the ages they died etc. I don't know if you have seen the cemetery in the street behind the Stuart Park Caravan Park at Cooberpedy, there is a grave with a beer barrel for a headstone, name welded onto the metal barrel, and little holes in a cement slab with beer bottles in them instead of flowers !

Hi there, the nearest town to Paronella would be Innisfail and the way to the Park marked on local maps and well signposted. I am on my way in that direction and will be at Bramston Beach for 2 or 3 months. Enjoy your trip, Cheers Helen

Thanks Helen, you too. Just curious, what type of caravan do you have there, looks like your towing with an X'Trail (good choice for the smaller caravans etc).
I haven't seen that model before and is it off road (seems to sit fairly high).
Thanks Vic
