"Recession" how's everyone coping?

Hi all, yes I know we said that we would be on the road at the start of 2009 but things happen like a death in the family and timing issues but I wan't go into all of that.

We are beinging to restart our dream to spend 2 or 3 years touring this great country but along comes this thing called a recession or whatever name you call it. For me it's the result of people just getting greedy and stuffing it for the rest of the world.

But to the question, as we have putting this together the thought has come our way "how is this recession playing out in the lives of those already "doing it"?

I can sort out the fuel thing, almost got the type of van we want but I don't have enough feedback about how it's effecting people on the road?

We would really love to hear your comments, advice, etc so we can put them into the mix.

Looking forward to comments
Brian and Cheryl

simple "TASSY if you cant afford to move , stay put
A few nomads have put their expences up on this while wandering , me included, and the general consensus is if you are on the pension , it can still be done but travelling slower
Free camping more , and staying put longer

Recession, what recession?

The recession is hitting the investor the hardest. This includes those that rely on their super fund, for an income.

Most people have adjusted their lives and can work around it. It seems to me a good time to purchase, if you have the cash. Its a buyers market, cash is king, so getting that van or rig, maybe wise now, but only if you can afford too.

I agree with Mike, a little ajustment to the plan is all that is required. All commodities seem to have a stable price at the moment, compared with 12 months ago.

I read on the front page of GN, that more people are hitting the road, because of the recession. This may impact in getting in to some CP, at certain times of the year, and may influence the market price for this type of accomodation. On the flip side, places like Goomeri (Qld), are being enterprising, and providing free camping, just to get business to the town.

If you have retired and are surviving (not living) on a super pension, or Govt handout you should be in a reasonable position. After all you cannot loose your job, and prices seem to have stabilised except fuel of course that seems to still be volatile. Because of the recession those at the high end will feel the pinch first and us lowly GN's would be less effected....

My sentiments exactly, never a truer word was spoken.

HI all, thank you for your comments. It seems that inspite of the "R" word all is possible it's just a matter of being more clever with we have and not try and break the land speed record at the same time.

We were planning to take our time anyway, like a couple of years or maybe even three. Who knows we might even like it so much that we will just keep on keeping on.

Once again our thanks for your advice

Regards and safe travels
