I voice an opinion on the effect of Ethanol based fuels on tanks that were left standing for even a short while when they first came on the market and was told by the experts of the day it was a crock of S##t I was on about . It gives me no joy to say "what goes around come around as they say" I just hope the right people are under the fan when it hits .
The concerns for GN's is the small gen sets , outboards , or even the little suzzie towed behind the motorhome. Then there are the GN's who sit for weeks even months without turning a wheel waiting for the next pay cheque to fill up and move on . As the article states this phase separation can take place after just a few days of storage . It should be noted that no amount of re agitation is going to re blend the separated ethanol it's now just water.
This is a problem and the pollies are ignoring it in the hope it will go away and the green vote will remain safe for the next election.
If you feel your going to be effected as the rest of Australians will be then get it up your local pollie to sort it out before we get screwed again
I simply dont understand why the mexican model hasnt been looked into more closely by the powers that be regarding these sorts of fuels, they have been using this fuel for years with almost all problems sorted or at least a hell of a lot of them

I wonder if they have really sorted out the ethanol separation problems as the problem has been well known in the scientific community for a coons age and I believe there has been very little progress on solving the problem. Most of the vehicles in Mexico are VW's or oversized yank tanks and they will run on anything that resembles fuel because they don't have all the anti pollution gear we have fitted

I dont know what issues they have sorted but there must surely be a way around it, I do know however that the worlds food supply is threatened if ever we do go down the bio fuel pathway, we simply cant grow enough for both needs
I still think electric is the way of the future for motor vehicles and nuclear power stations the main supply, just a question of waste disposal

I'm with you on this one Dave, but meanwhile I hope I have no more problems with diesel as I did in Feb. with water in fuel bought from Threeways.Took 5 empties of fuel filter over about 2,000k's to dispense with the water.Fortunately the Ranger had no problems since.Another 6,000k's travelled,no problems.

yep gotta watch the "out of the way" fuel stations that dont turn the fuel around very quickly, they also have the "diesel bug" in some of their tanks and you dont want that in yours

The issue has sparked a lot of chat at the local fishing outlet as they run a charter boat with 2 110 hp outboards feed from 500lt underfloor tanks which they keep topped up to prevent the build up of water .
A question was raised , What do the service station do to halt the phase separation issue ?.
Anyone got an answer ?
