I have not camped here but Judy and Mike asked me to check it out and this is what I found out:

The sign says:

GUMMA RESERVE

*   Fees are $8.00 a day and will be collected by a committee member.

*   Maximum camping is one (1) month in every two (2) months only.

*   No camping within 10 metres of the creek bank.

*   No unoccupied vans or campsites.

*   A parent must accompnay all children under the age of 16 years.

*   No dogs allowed.

*   Van are to be parked at right angles with tow hitches to the road.


This site is 8 kms from the Pacific Highway at Mackville in NSW, there is 2 kms of dirt road, not too bad, I was in my van (Toyota Hi Ace)  but I would not have taken my car over it, well no today anyway, as parts of the road where under water from recent rain.  I have never been there before so did not know what to expect.  Also due to the rain parts of the road were corrugated and a few pot holes, how often it is repaired I don't know.  The grass at the parking area was mowed recently but very damp and soggy and the track around the site was very muddy.

There is flushing loos there but no lights inside, picnic tables and tank drinking water.

It is right on a creek and seemed to be a good fishing spot as there were a few parked vehicles there with boat trailers.  Quite a peaceful spot but lost my vote because of the NO dogs allowed, why I dont understand, as it is well off the highway.

How to get there on the Pacific Highway:

Driving from Brisbane/Coffs Harbour, at Macksville coming over the Nambucca River, very first left hand turn over the bridge into River Street.  Follow River Street as far as it will go and you will come to Boultons Crossing Road which will take you to the Reserve.

Driving from Sydney/Kempsey, as you come into Macksville shopping centre, you will see the RSL Club on the left and Mackville Chinese Restaurant on the right, at the traffic lights, turn right into Partridge Street (hard to see the street sign) follow Partridge Street right to it's end and turn left into East Street, no street sign that I could see, up to the end of East Street and that will bring you to River Street, turn right, and follow as above.

It seeems to have changed a lot since I was there althought rain makes a difference to campers outlook, when I was there last there was NO RULES, OR SIGNS, and it has totally lost my vote now because of the no dogs, My Pixie would have been disgusted,

Gumma reserve is privately owned.  The rules in regard to dogs has changed because of some owners not restraining dogs and cleaning up after their dogs. 

Gumma has clean toilets and drinking water.

It is on Warrell Creek and is a beautiful spot to canoe, fish and relax. I live 1/2 hr away and can recommend it.

Heck, I'm going to be out there forever camped at these wonderful sites.

Love the good news of an RSL.......always good tucker and sociable drinks.
