hi Patricia and welcome to the forum, look once you retire and start LIFE you will wonder how the hell you found time to go to work in the first place, there is always tons of STUFF to do and the best part of it is, nobodys telling you that you have to do anything, YAY!!!

downside, you wont be paid for doing stuff that you like to do, so answer get part time jobs, the best part is that you can pick and choose, dont like bathing the pigs, tell him to stuff it, go pick cherries or roses, sort bananas dont like it, one word BYE!!! find something you dont mind, do it until you get sick of it or your purse is full again, plenty of part time work out there, dont fret about it just do it, you wont regret it

Patricia, look around you... I now wonder when I had the time to work. If you don't want cash the entire nation now seems to be run by volunters and if you do want cash the rest of the workforce seems to be employed as "Casuals" so that the employer dosn't have to pay super etc, and there are miles of casual jobs going even in these times when as we have just been told "all workers are at risk of loosing their jobs".
After 53 years on the job you must have skills, whatever they may be exploit them.
Write up your resume, print of a few copies so that when you roll into town you can hand a few out, check shop windows for " Staff Wanted" ads and see how you go.

I have not quite reached that stage yet but it's coming, some days it is closer than others I ca tell you!
A couple of years ago I decided I needed to discover WA, yes I know someone had already done that, but it wasn't me, so I had to do it. I gave myself 7 months off work and set off, concerned that I might get a bit bored - no way, the whole thing was wonderful I really got to know who I am at long last, became comfortable with my own company or at least more so, got a whole new relationship with my boyz (my dogs) and really did not want to go back to work full time again, but I had to.

You will most likely love it!

Hi there. If you think you'll be bored after you retire, have a contingency plan, just in case it happens. Rejig a hobby, take up a sport or dancing, try art or writing.
I think you'll find, as the others have said, you just won't have time to be bored once you hit the road. You'll spend a lot of time talking to people, if you want to, comparing travel notes and fishing spots. Now there's another activity you could take up if you don't do it already.
What do you do now when you're not working? If you're a gardener you may miss it for a while, but I've found lots of pleasure just walking around streets and parks, and the bush simply enjoying the work others have done to make things grow.
If you want to work you'll find people will be happy to see you. The fact you turned up to look for work is a good recommendation to most seasonal employers.
But didn't you say you're retiring? What are you thinking woman?
Just kick back, relax and watch the world slide by, and enjoy every moment.
Safe and happy retirement and travels. But don't forget to enjoy yourself.

see he's still trying to get out of mowing that lawn HAH!!! HAH!!! you're just gonna have to do it yourself!! either that or let her grow and when I come up there in a couple a years I'll get the dragon to do it whilst I relax on the veranda and watch the sun go down, tequila in hand

Sorry Patricia it seems to be getting out of hand, that happens here.
Just shows there are a lot of people with very little to do with there time and I'm one of them.

as i often am at work for 100 hrs a week i feel used to doing it, but main reason i want to work is my pension is not going to cover very much, it is an economic necessity

jeezz! patricia, get off that bloody treadmill before you're kicked off by the almighty, I put in between 60 - 80 plus my after hours work and I am rooted well and truly, how the hell do you put in 100hrs

when it's harvest and we are on the go full time we put in 140hrs over a seven day week but I cant keep that up for much more than a month, then I just collapse in a blathering heap, normally shoot up the murray for a week and just go aaahhhhh!!!! and sleep for 12 hours a day

forget what the pension is going to cover, start your life now, $100 per day is all you need, a lot less if you take it steady, get away from that job before it kills you!! please!!!

I heartily agree with Dave on this, my wife and I travel on the age pension and do very nicely thank you. I realise that the single pension is a lot less than the married one, simply budget your funds and go girl, enjoy your life whilst you are still able to do so.
