38 would be a cool change.

Been hovering around the 40 for the past 2 weeks here in Deni.

According to the thermometer in the car, it was 44 here at Yellowpinch dam. I pulled all the blinds in the van and fired up the fan but the air was so dry it didn't give much relief. Same again tomorrow I believe - give a thought to those poor sods in Melbourne, 47 today and knowing Melbourne, probably sticky with it.

officially 47 today. Now at 9:30 at night it is still 41.
At least no bush fires here.
Pity Victoria and Queensland can't play swaps for a while

That's exactly what we in FN Qld are thinking. All that water heading out to sea. It doesn't seem fair.
My thoughts are with the southerners frying in the heat, and those who are victims of bushfires lit by firebugs.
I feel very helpless here in Cairns too, as there's nothing one can do to help the flood victims just a little bit down the road.
Just for info, it's bucketing down here at the moment, and the ground just can't take any more water.
Add to that the king tides of the year this weekend.
Ain't nature wonderful ----- and cruel.
Take care. Granny

I just can't articulate my anger and disjust at the firebugs/arsonists - when they are caught they all seem to rely on the old "I'm a fruitcake" defense. I wish I could get hold of them with a lit torch and slowly barbeque them while alive....

After listening to ABC radio during the night my thoughts go out to Drongo and Wendy as Myrtleford was listed on the areas to watch.

In Deni this morning we have the smell of smoke and that eerie haze in the air.

Wishing all in the fire areas the best and take care.

  1. Insane morons who light fires deliberately.Strange how they are always bonkers after they are caught.Heaven knows how many previous fires have been lit by them.My heart goes out to all the poor souls who have perished in the Victorian fires.I guess that we are all feeling the misery that their relatives, friends, schoolmates, workmates must be going through just now.Cheers.Ibbo.

It seems we are the lucky ones, 32 and a cool breeze, no fires , no flood, at least this year so far, we were in the thick of the flood this time last year, so am really feeling for them on the coast, and my son in the yarra valley is housing refugees from the fire , his old house from last year is gone up in smoke,
somebody/one/ thing is looking after my family this year

It's only been around 40 in Canberra but yesterday in Nowra it got to 44...
I hate these hot westerlies, I depise the NP&WS who will not clean out the crap from National parks that provide a lot of the fuel for fires around Sydney. Remember 2002? Everyone in Canberra was effected someway by the fires, the flames reached the brick wall on my sons house and went no further, my yard was not visible from the back door the smoke was so thick cinders everywhere.....I've never been so scared, not even in the Jungles of Vietnam. They called for vollunteers to help out at the local theartre where the Salvos were trying to organise all the donated goods given by those who could and they were being thwarted by 2 young public servants whe were at the hight of the fire arguing about who should be in charge....

The poor people who have lost the lot, insurance may rebuild your home but it can't replace your memories, your photos.... Times like this bring out the best in us aussies, we will always rally round to help whenever we can.

Death toll has been lifted to 50. Surely with a murder charge when some-one dies in an arsonists' fire, this time the perps. won't get off with just a slap on the wrists ? Insanity should not be allowed to be any sort of defense, real or assumed.

That pretty town of Marysville where I spent many days is totally gone

my mother lived in Kinglake before moving into a nursing home 5 years ago and my mind keeps going over all the time i spent in the surrounding areas and the wonderful people and neighbours that lived there.

dont know what i'm trying to say my mind has been numbed.
they will be remembered in my prayers

Our thoughts and heartfelt sympathies go out to all at this time, such a disaster.  Sorry but words fail me at this time.

I'm thinking of everyone in Victoria and their families, and can only hope that out of all this tragedy and grief, something good comes out of it - Building regulations in forests, National Parks fuel reduction programmes.
I believe, from the news I've heard, all the fire zones are crime scenes, and the actions have been described as mass murder.
I have a problem with the mental health system which is supposed to be monitoring these "fruit loops". They give them a bottle of pills, and send them home. All is good if they take their pills. If they don't, no one follows up and monitors the patients' state of mind. Then as we are seeing, the wheels fall off, and no one is held accountable because they are not responsible for their actions.
What a crock!
I believe the mental health system is letting the country down, letting abused families down, all in the name of "not responsble or their actions". Soft options are also letting us all down.

I'll get off my soap box now. Sorry folks, but I get so cranky over these issues. And when lives are lost as the end result, what more can be said?

Stay safe everyone. Granny

I'm feeling very useless up here, but I did clean out some of the surplus bedding in the van, and packed it up and gave it to the Salvos to distribute as they see fit.

Our local Sing Australia group is also collecting and passing it on the the national Sing Australia headquarters. At least it's something.

How can one person make an impact on such a huge disaster? But collectively the efforts of individuals start to make a small dent. One door closes and another opens, and life does go on, albeit a completely new life.

Cheers Granny
