I used it for a little while, still got an account with them, it was quite good the little that I used it, I "borrowed" a couple of high priced programs (havent returned them yet) and they wanted an email account so I signed up with google to keep my good accounts clean, only used it a few times but it kept reasonably clean not too much rubbish

Don't use GMAIL, but one comment is that at work I get a lot of emails generated from GMail which are either scams of some sort or just soliciting responses to send further replies later.
Only today received one from Iceland (supposedly) soliciting the opportunity to order from us and send to the US and another forwarded to us from our Head Office in the U.S. wanting to order product to go to New Zealand. Both carried the same email address from GMail.

Hi Guys,
Bought a new laptop yesterday and as we will be on the road fulltime from March, I am also looking at Telstra Next G. I have been investigating the 5GB monthly plan for $89 (or thereabouts). What pre-paid plan are you on and what do you get?

Gmail is very good.
Had it for about 9 months and not a single spam message has got through.
Free, easy and heaps of storage.
Failing that, there's always hotmail, or fastmail (do a google search). Fastmail is Australian based and very good. Various levels of membership, but the free one is fine for everyday use. Cheers, Tony

Been using Telstra for phone and laptop, since I sold up and took to the road, because it seems the only way to get the coverage all over Australia,
would be sus about others as telsta owns the towers dont they,???
Friends on Optus and Vodaphone are not as good as Telstra,
Its the ability to connect whereever you are that counts, so considering Sattelite??

Hi,

For what its worth have been using Telstra Next G Card with Laptop computer for the past couple years. Have been all over the place and never had a problem connecting to Internet. However I do have an external aerial which does help. If in remote area suggest you acquire one. The 5 Gig Plan could be the way to go as it is SHAPED in that if you go over the 5 gig in uploads and downloads you are not charged (as in the lesser plans), all they do is slow your speed.

I have also been using G Mail for the past couple of years and find that it is quite ok. No problems with SPAM as you have your inbox set up so that it filters 99% of it. It is as good, if not better than a lot of others.

Then again, thats just my personal opinion for what its worth. Hope this info assists.

I use gmail. The spam get filtered out into a spam folder so its not a problem. I set it up originally to chat with family overseas. They were in a country with quite strict internet rules and gmail was one that worked for them. It is easy for chat to anyone else with gmail as you see who is there while checking your email.

I also have hotmail. seem to get more spam in my inbox with it.

I use different emails for different purposes. Official stuff to bigpond,ebay to a gmail a/c, kids contact through hotmail etc.

I have been using Gmail as a secondary mail address for the last 2 years (Primary is Bigpond) and up to date I have not had any problems at all, have found it to be very good and the spam is filtered into a spam folder. Maybe I am just one of the lucky ones.

the way I understand it, and I am no geek beleive me, is that spam is recognised by certain words, I used to get offers for all sorts but since placing them in to the spam folder manually I notice the same wording does not come back thereby knocking the spam on the head

we use ninemsn, optus zoo and as I said I have a gmail acc. but dont use it, we have no problems with spam in any of them after knocking the obvious ones straight to the spam box, the email watcher thingamyjigger seems to learn to recognise spam and kicks it straight off, so we are no longer bothered by cheap viagra or a diploma in brain surgery or enlarging certain organs without a magnifying glass

and as for phone coverage telstra next g is good as is 3g I use it but it does drop out a hell of a lot, if you are going to go out bush (north west) grab a sat phone

We are using Telstra Pre-Paid wireless Broadband. You just recharge as required. needed to get a new mobile phone and JB HiFi had a special where you got the Telstra USB dongle free ($149 to buy), comes with $10 credit.

You then just recharge as required, $30 will get you 225MG which should be enough to check emails and a bit of browsing. We intend to use internet cafes and Maccas (http://www.freewifi.com.au/listing_mcdonalds_summary.php) as much as we can.

If this doesn't work may need to look at a plan although I hate plans

We are sitting in our local macca;s enjoying raisin toast and coffee, trying out their free internet connection.
Not the fastest connection in the world but is acceptable especially when free.

You get 50Meg downloads per session.
We were on approx. 30 minutes,browsed this forum and posted a topic,
checked primary and secondary emails, checked banking. Checked out a couple of other sites, total dowloads used 9Meg.
Did try and download a 15Meg file but it kept timing out.
Overall very good.
