creatures of the night

On the way up here  from Young we stopped at a freebie called Hickey Falls,  tween Gilgandra, and Coonabarabran, soon as the van was opened we shot of down to the pool to see if it was usable, as it looked a bit suspicious I declined to go in, but my Game and adventurous Judy had her thongs off and was wading out to the deeper water, all the while exhorting me to join her,, "come on in in its shrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrriiiiiiiccccck, the scream echoed around the rock walls, the trees shook, and all the semi-trailers on the hwy 500 mtrs away put on thier brakes
Moving as fast as she could she shot out of the pool shaking her leg furiously, the poor hungry little leech didnt have a chance, I think its still up in the tree, I laughed my head off, , your turn will come she threatened,
sure enough I wandered into a patch of stinging nettles, quite uncomfortable for a while
nice place for a photo shoot, but  dont leave your van

a thong in nettles OOOOOOHHHH!!! that would make your eyes water,

the first campground at halls gap is surrounded by tall grass, we went to pick up fallen timber for our fire, upon return the dragon said to me to have a look at tmy legs, they were covered in the buggers, dozens of them

Is this Burrough Huts your talking about Dave?
Not much grass around em now since the fires, but its growing back, burrough huts have been redone up, as most campgrounds have since the fires.

The most boring campground we have here is the pines, off Mt Zero road, you get the pines, theres something about that campground I just don't like, I wouldn't stay there.

But hell forget the campgrounds, theres a vacant block opposite my joint that hasn't seen human life in years (except for the mowing each fire season).

yes I think it was burrough huts, it has a little creek running through it, first on your right after halls gap itself heading west, lovely spot, I was admiring the view one day when out of the mist a herd of reindeer thingys came out, absolutely magical, but I have since heard they are a pest or something, shame, they reminded me of that famous painting "the stag at bay" or something like that

Those ones are so big I once landed next to one thinking it was a fuel bladder positioned by the grunts  for a hotstop refuel

My guess is you forgot either the free camps bible or maybe the cobb cooker

Bubs was this your first true night on your own if so how did you go, no reason to be frightened was there, no boogeymans, please tell us how you got on,

perhaps we need a "guess what she left behind" lottery or something

my guess with the much needed pack item was the "power cord", no-body with an ounce of sense would leave the house without the bible or the cobb!!!

Bubs, if you come down again in the next few months (with the exception of the jazz festival, Im working then), I can show you some good spots to camp, I know I am going to spell this wrong, Burryong (thats kinda how its said) in the Vic Valley isnt a bad spot, and some of the others in the Southern End are even better, like the one near Billima Falls.
