Is it normal for a fridge (Dometic) to turn of in the middle of night when on gas? Most times it will restart itself but occasionally it won't. I have asked a guy at a caravan place and he thought that was normal. It can be of putting sometimes waking up in the middle of the night hearing it going click click.
Anybody else have this problem? It runs out of warranty in January so keen to get it sorted out now.
mine doesnt, but I'll bet it's older than yours, could be a change that I havent heard about, almost sounds like the heat probe may be sooting up??, flame set too low???? just as a ps on this note gary, I read my destruction manual and it states the only time the thermostat is operational is when it is hooked up to 240 volt, thereby it is "running" all the time when it is on gas or 12 volt, if you hear "clicking" then that is the piezo ignitor trying to reignite the little flame, your later model must have automatic ignition, mine does not, this MAY mean the flame needs adjusting?? have you a manual on the thing, what does it say in there, I know definately my flame NEVER goes out unless I turn off the gas, I can feel it through my side vent

My knowledge of refridgeration, is restricted to "powered" units, 240v/12v/24v, but I would firmly believe gas units are the same.
No matter what the "compressor" component, it is all driven by the internal temperature of the fridge. When more cooling is required, the motor is call in to action. This is done via the thermostat, inside the fridge.
At night there is little requirement for more cooling, as the doors are not opened as often, and therefore the insulation, can maintain the temp for longer periods.
As for your concern, unfortunately, the only way to determine an error to satisfy the warrenty, is a temperature graph recorder - a way of recording temp, to say, that cooling was required and nothing happened - not a good food safety situation, to be in, if it is not working correctly
