Cheryl and i are preparing for a 2 to 3 trip around Australialate 2008. The question has arisen diesel powered 4 WD or LPG or a combination of the two.
There appears to be advantages all the way round, such as lpg is cheaper but it's good insurance to be able to run on diesel  during those times when lpg is not available.

We would appreciate anyone's comments on this topic that seems to have as many answers as there are stars in the sky.

Gadday Brian.I have done a bit of research on this subject too and from all accounts there does seem to be answers.
1.Are you towing a heavy van( dual axle ) off road = diesel bitumen=diesel/gas
2. " " " " light van(single axle) off road =petrol bitumen=LPG/Petrol combo.
3. " " " " small/boat ---------------------------------------------- =LPG/Petrol combo.
4. Not towing LPG/Combo.
IMHO
LPG can be had everywhere and diesel just about same.biggrin
Dont forget your passport ha ha

Get off the bitumen and foget LPG. It is just not available in many places.
Get into Aboriginal lands and UL may not be available either.

Diesel will give the best availability, and the best fuel consumption (for the same work) which means better range and the option to skip some more expensive refuel places.

Thank you guys for your input. We will take it on board in our planning but I have talked with some others face to face and they tend to lean towards diesel. The planning continues. We just can't wait for then end of 2008 to get going.
