One tip I read was to put a ceramic tile in the base of the oven to minimise direct radiant heat, sounds like a good idea.

Yep had one,, all ok but I did have considerable trouble controlling temp, and temp gauge never worked so used on to sit on top.
Don't laugh,,, the problem is I have low pressure gas burners (not primus type) and I found it very easy to overheat due to capacity of burners.
Stone probably good idea IF you can find one to fit as putting across burner and sitting stove on top won't allow air into stove.
Cheers baz

They've been around for over 40 years. A classic piece of camping gear.
An essential piece of camping equipment for us. LOVE IT!
Temperature is easily regulated, gauge works well.
We use a round metal heat diffuser on the shelf underneath whatever we're cooking.
Wouldn't leave home without it & bought a spare one just in case they disappear.
Around $60.
Better than our wall oven at home on occasions!
We now use it on top of a Companion Wok Cooker which has a more powerful burner than our old Coleman Roadtrip BBQ.
Fantastic for baking crusty bread loaves or rolls.
If the wind is blowing use a stand up, wrap around 3 piece wind deflector.

Be patient with it & don't expect to master it's use in 5 minutes.
With a little practice you'll get the hang of it & reap the rewards.
There are a number of tutorials on the internet that may be helpful.
Basically they are a folding tin box with a door & a shelf.

We don't use a tile, we use a round diffuser.

Thanks DD: I appreciate they are basically a tin box, I expect a learning curve.
Jade46: I have wondered about the tile but given that a glazed tile is fired around 1500C (if I remember school pottery correctly) then I assume your exploding tile was due to uneven heating and thus uneven expansion? However it is a point very well made. What I *really* need is a piece of asbestos :)

Mike Harding That was my thought too. Fired when they are made but didn't work that way
My caravan does not have an oven and I was wondering about buying a Coleman Camp Oven:

Has anyone used one and what is your opinion?

Folds up to nothing & weighs very little.
