Have a friend who is parking his caravan up for a few months. What does he need to do to make sure that his deep cycle batteries do not fail. Should he keep everything connected or disconnect it all?

Any ideas on what to line cupboards with. In the past we have used soft plastic mesh and find it breaks down and goes soft and sticky. We also live in a hot climate.
