Has anyone experienced very stiff strutts on a camper trailer

I have been having trouble with the strutts on my new camper trailer top. They are so stiff that you need 2 people to close the top. This is so very inconvienent as I am a solo nomad Has anyone experienced this problem before? and will they ease up in the near future? I would appreciate any advise Cheers Joh...
