Sink waste coming up in the shower?

Anyone else have this issue? Or are we just suffering yet another Jayco downside? We are about to solve this problem by having two separate waste hoses. I am not overly worried, as a forty dollar fix using another waste pipe means we can join them both together when we are a long way from the caravan park drain. It will mean swapping over the waste hose if this is the case when we shower, but life goes on.

Put one of these ( hepvo.com/hepvo-waterless-valve/ ) in the shower drain pipe and your problem will be solved.

Yes I had that problem as well.

My solution was to change my hose from caravan to drain to a larger diameter.

Im now using swimming pool hose which is same internal diameter as caravan plumbing.

Im using the 1200mm lengths which I carry in pvc pipe under van. I have 10 lengths and join together as required

All available at the big green shed.

Hopefully this is helpful

Regards.

My similar problem was as simple as finding an offending elbow in the ridgid piping where one pipe had

been pushed too far into the elbow and thus limited flow.

Since your problem is ocuring after the shower, there's not too many elbows to the outlet to examine (if any).

I removed all the double-up plumbing at the end of the line - just cut it all off and now have a separate, direct

connection to the waste hose and same for WM, which I rarely use. Much simpler and no bits to stow anywhere.

All sensible and simple solutions. We had enquired about the valve, and I did suspect that the waste from the sink was not getting away as fast as it should, causing the backflow. But really, why would a major manufacturer like Jayco make sure this did not happen in the first place? Anyway. all your ideas are appreciated and one of them will solve the problem. Cheers all.

Had the same problem with a brand new Jayco Silverline recently. The service manager told me how to fix it. Remove the washers from the outlet hose. If more than 1 section is joined together, they all have washers and each washer reduces the flow and causes your blockage problem. After removing the washers, the water got away just fine. I now usually just use 1 section of hose with the washer removed. Now works great. It is not a Jayco (caravan) problem.

Funnily enough, I was fooling around with the dual outlet into one outlet plastic pipe thingy yesterday and noticed how a black rubber washer that is in between the pipe and the end bit. And yeah, it was a smaller diameter internally and yeah, it would definitely cause a bit of a blockage.

I had this problem on my Westport 20 years ago.

My solution(S) were to

- Use two waste pipes .. separate hoses for the vanity & the shower outlets.

- Where I had insufficient pipe to reach the sump ... join the two short ends together with a 'Y' coupling & attach a third pipe.

- If still not long enough to reach, fit the 'Y' joint at the end of two 1 meter long pipes from the outlets & use the 3 pipes to reach the sump.  I have seen many Jayco owners using this set up in all situations.  The key is to have at around 1 meter lengths of the dual pipe set up.

Of course fitting the Hepvo valve(s) would be the best solution.   I did go to the trouble of making up my own anti backflow setup before I found out about the Hepvo product.  Had a lot of fun experimenting but never used it.

BTW.. I still have the original 20YO waste pipes that are smooth inside & out & join with short lengths of the common 25mm? pipe .

Fixed the issue permanently and hopefully forever. Went to the big green shed and bought a 1 metre length of clear plastic tubing that fitted snugly over the existing clear tubing. Cut in in half. Used a small amount of existing tubing to attach larger tubing to that 2 into 1 drain thingy. Slipped it on the outlets so that air can escape around the top of the tube. Now both sink and shower drain much faster, and no backing up of waste sink water into the shower. I deliberately tried to cause a problem by blocking the drain hose completely. The water rose up the tubes but then fell harmlessly to the ground. She who  controls all things in the cosmos is happy, which makes me happy. No valves or buckets or mass redirecting of pipes needed.
