Mirrors

(As with anything connected with the RV lifestyle there's a certain amount of one upmanship connected with what mirrors you have.

Some people even suffer from mirror envy. )

With all due respect DD you sometimes talk rubbish. We are all aware of your opinion of Clearview mirrors we have heard them often enough, but envy? one upmanship? Surely people buy them for the great job that they do anything that improves safety on our roads is fine by me and, yes, I do have Clearview mirrors.

 Hi

Over nearly 50 years of caravanning i have had many different types of mirrors.

Four years ago i purchased Clearview mirrors i wish they had been out years ago and i would have bought them then .

They are allso a lot better even without the van on as you have two mirrors in one.

I did not buy them for one upmanship or to make other caravanners envious they were purchased because they suited my needs and nothing else. Why would people be envious of a set of mirrors!!!

I was brought  up to respects others and not be degrading to what other people have or do not have.

One final word is if you do purchase Clearviews get the black ones .I first had chrome ones and the sun would flash of them at times.I was lucky in the fact i always buy locally and the local ARB  dealer swapped them for black ones at no charge.

Cheers

I too have Clearview mirrors on my Patrol.

When I got them I was taken aback by the size of them, and when fitted I find they actually impair / block my vision to traffic approaching from the sides. Example, when at an intersection checking for traffic approaching from the right, the top portion of the Clearview blocks my normal line of vision. I actually need to lift up to see over them....and no I am not vertically challenged.

They did take some getting used to, but they are still fitted to my vehicle. Cheers.

Liker DD I DONT have Clearview Mirrors. Why? Well my current mirrors have blind spot monitoring, they are heated to clear them on cold mornings, they fold in when I lock the car automatically, I can also fold them in if I am travelling down a narrow track or trying to fit in a small space without having to get out of the car and they dip when I select reverse. Given I am not full time on the road towing, I just want those features available all the time. Also I think they look butt ugly on a Discovery 4! But each to his/her own. If they folded in automatically i might consider them, but when I park in my garage I need to fold the mirrors in. Having to get out and push the passenger side mirror would just drive me crazy.

Since I bought the Jeep I haven,t been using my Milenco mirrors as the car seems to be a lot wider than my previous vehicle with the standard mirrors  combined with the vans rear camera I believe that I have a pretty good view on both sides and also behind. Yesterday I decided to put the Milencos on just to see how much they may improve things if at all. After about 20kms the drivers side seemed to be vibrating a little so I decided to pull over and retighten them unfortunately before I could find somewhere safe it flew off and smashed on the road behind us. Lucky there was no traffic about as we were on a small country road if it had happened on the freeway going a lot faster it could have really caused some damage to someone following. I like many others don,t like the Clerviews as they look ugly and stick out way too far but after this experience if I have to use towing mirrors I will bite the bullet and get some fitted. I saw a Grand Cherokee with chrome ones on in the Urunga CP the other day and in my opinion although they looked to be very functional the car looked terrible.

Cheers

BB

I am unsure of the brand of mirrors I have but they have two clicking rubber strips to hold them onto the mirror housing. I am not confident they will stay on so I attached some synthetic rope to them and tie that around the arm of the mirror. They dont move and probably the rope is overkill, but I dont want to loose them either. If you tow a van that is wider then the vehicle you will need mirrors. using the reversing camera view is not a valid substitute.
