NSW government hands back $88 million in green slip refunds

Gday...

Are you one of those who have yet to make a claim?

refunds of up to $120 are a result of reforms to the compulsory third party (CTP) insurance scheme that have reduced CTP premiums by up to $172 a year. NSW motorists previously paid the highest CTP insurance in Australia with an average premium of $710.
Under the refund scheme, which is available to an estimated four million NSW vehicle owners with policies starting before December 1, 2017, around $300 million is expected to be returned to motorists.

Thanks John for the reminder I tried to apply for my $10 rebate using their online system months ago unfortunately I got a message that it couldn't be processed as it was outside of their normal office hours confuseconfuse I then forgot about it. Apparently the earlier last year that you purchased your greenslip the less you will get back.

Cheers

BB

Gday...

The article sez - "The minimum refund is $10 and the maximum is $120. Each refund is subject to an administration fee of $7.87, meaning your vehicle has to be eligible for $17.87 or more to get anything back."

I had been trying to get it for several Months, finally a Services NSW staffer rang me today $117-70 now in my account. Even with the rebate I don't know why we pay such exorbitant rego in NSW.

Hi smile

Yes there is a refund, and we have "claimed" ours.  However I cannot see why we had to claim them. RMS have all the account details and our details so why did they not just send the cheques out or just give a discount on the next payment. Typical government way to make something simple into something hard. And they charged us a fee for the privilege !!!disbelief

It is very nice to get a rebate from the NSW Govt, very nice indead !!

But don't relax just yet. If you are a home owner in NSW you are going to be slugged by a "Firebrigade" (etc) levy on your council rates, as an add-on to your council rates.. If you thought the levy (now refunded) applied to the Green Slip was heavy....a percentage applied to the larger Rates amount will stagger you.

Just remember, when a politician gives you something with one hand, keep the other hand in full view.

Jaahn

I would reckon the RMS does not have your account details. You dealt directly with the individual insurance company who issued your green slip. It is possible that it is against some regulation for the insurance company to pass on that sort of private information. At least they are chasing up the insurance companies to retrieve your money for you.

Following that, the RMS can not give you a discount next year as you are not dealing with them to get your green slip. I suggest  you just be thankful and aply for your money back.
