The Albert Tognilini rest area is a lovely spot for a stop, its on the Great Northern Highway about 20k north of where the Tom Price/Karijini road joins it. The views from it are outstanding.

If you want somewhere closer to Port Hedland there are several rest stops along the highway but we haven't stayed at any of them.

Agree with Meridith, plus there is an excellent Caravan Park at Auski Roadhouse at the bottom of the hill from Albert T's lookout.

Regards.

Wiki camps lists several free camps on the Great Northern Highway north of Tognolini. Bea Bea ck, Marble Bar, Yule River Bed, Blakeys Spot, Frostys Find Mundabullangana, Port Hedland Golf Club. We didn't stay in any of them but I marked them with a heart (favourite) so the comments and photos must have been good.
Without a doubt, Albert Tognolini and Robinsons Rest area were our best stops on the Great Northern Hwy. Good travelling.

wouldn't stay at Karinjini, camp at Albert Tognilini rest area and day trip into the NP.
It is only 350km from the NP to Port Hedland, but if that is too big of a hop there are a couple of roadhouses with camping areas out back.

I know of Auski. What is the other roadhouse and how far from Headland is it?

I only know of one, Auski Roadhouse &Tourist Village. It is shown as a caravan park on WikiCamps, you may have to reset your filters to show caravan parks.
