For Jeep Grand Cherokee owners who are pulling vans 2.6T or over can you please tell me if you need to use a WDH ? I would be particuarly interested iin feedback from those who use either the Laredo or Limited without the auto adjusting air suspension. Im not really that interested in hearing all the negatives about Jeeps from experts who once knew someone who owned one thats becoming a little boring.
Hi BB my mate that my wife and I tour with has a 3yr old top of the range Jeep and tows a Jayco Silverline that he says is close to 3.1 T .We toured to Townsville and back to Vic and He has just returned from 6 weeks over to WA.and back.He has never entertained the thought of a WDH and his van has towed like a dream.Yet my Paj is much happier with a WDH on our 2.4 T. Whilst Jeep put the recommendation/requirement at a given trailer weight, in practice it is more about the ball weight and trailer "balance". Irrespective of that, I believe that yours is a newer model and the owner's manual now states that you must use a WDH at that sort of trailer weight. Anecdotally, mine is a MY14 which it is only "recommended" to use a WDH, however it has Quadralift and my van is a heavy single axle so "pumps" the car over particularly uneven roads... I use a WDH on a very low setting prior to to self-levelling. Cheers, Steve
Thanks for the feedback, I still have the HR WDH that I was using with the Pajero Sport so with a few height adjustments it should fit. I know Jeep recomends using one but I was just wondering due to the manual handling whether I could get away without it. I didnt opt for the Quadra Lift suspension but if needed Ill do what I did with the Sport and add some air bags to the rear coils which when lightly inflated really worked well when used in conjunction with the WDH.
Yes thanks barboots I will check but the car won,t actually be delivered until I get back to Oz in April. Which is good because I found out when I had to go home last week for a few days that it will be a 2018 model and include a whole lot of extras that weren,t on the 2017 and better still it wont cost me any extra for them.
Hi BB I have a Laredo CDR 4x4 2015 standard suspension, when we picked up our first van (Roadstar Daintree 23ft) with an ATM of 3.5t. I was advised to use a WDH and they actually set it up for me which I adjusted later when I had actual weight onboard. When I have a good weight on the ball (310kg) it's a great level ride. In setting up the hitch do it with the weights you would normally travel with and measure the tyre gaps (tyre to fender & front and rear). A WDH and Trailer sway sys are recommended for heavier tongue weights, as stated on page 254 of my operating information booklet.

Thanks for the feedback and advice Salus I was expecting that I would need to use my WDH - I was just hoping that I could get away without it due to the extra weight and manual handling. I would as even considering asking them to fit the smaller Laredo wheels rather than the standard 20 as I thought they may be better for towing. Previous feedback I.ve had from other owners is that the 20 wheels are fine.
Ron you may be right but not having owned either an Isuzu or a Jeep if I made a comment it would only be a guess. Ask me again in 12 months what I think but even then I will have had the experience of owning and driving only one of them.

welcome to the forum, we have a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee now with 45k on the clock 30 of this has been towing a Millard 21CD
ball weight 330kg last time i weighed ourself (Tasmania march last year) van weight 3300kg no water, (mind you we have tried to cull since then).
I use Hayman Reese WDH along with polyman air bags inside the back springs, along with Dexter stability control, could not be happier with our complete rig, perfectly married together.
just did 8800k to Burketown then down to Glen innes and back to Hervey Bay greta ru no problems overall fuel was 14lts per 100k another vreat point.

forgot to mention i changed over to 18 wheels prior delivery my reasons being 18inch tyres more accessible in remote areas, softer ride and cheaper price.
our dealer swaped the wheels of a laredo as he would get more money for it with 20inch wheels he said.
