On Canstar a couple of months ago they had an article on Boost versus Telstra. ----Result was Boost is the ONLY Mobile Virtual Network Operator to get FULL Telstra coverage.

The difference is that Boost does not get Telstra full 4GX speed capacity, has a cap of 100Mbps.

So to clarify , Boost has the same coverage as Telstra.

Barry, you clearly said "Boost is on the full Telstra network because it is part of Telstra." It is no more a part of Telstra than Aldi or any of the others that may be hosted on the Telstra net. They have published their coverage maps, you can see it above and compare that map with the Telstra map. You say you do not know how it works but you are prepared to argue the toss.

Who is this Canstar mob? Please provide a link to what you are quoting so I can see whether your quote of the article is accurate or not.

Another topic that is being dragged from the main subject by some who have no real input but are prepared to create their own agenda.

The OP in his post, did not care who owned what....

Swing those appendages and see who has the biggest but in all of this I wonder how many members who may have contributed real and accurate information with regard to the OP's questions have been discouraged by this behaviour.

I wonder if the OP will even reply?

Thank you everyone so much for your advice and input. I clearly posted a question which ignited some passion.

I very much appreciate all the knowledge you guys have shared, and it has definitely given me some things to think about. Im lucky I have a few more months before I leave so it gives me some more time to consider how to proceed. Im still tending to think I may use an Optus service (which provides the lower cost and higher volume data plans) and then use a second Telstra service for wherever I cant access Optus. Ill look into Boost as well now that I know its working on the Telstra network (although I believe its the wholesale network, which carries the same coverage but lower strength).

Thank you to everyone for your input and insight. I am very grateful for all of your opinions and thoughts.

We did from Melbourne to Cairns up the centre and back via Pacific and Newell. Te wife has a Telstra phone, I have an Optus.

90% of the time the Optus outperformed the Telstra for reception, often three bars versus one.

We use a combo of Optus and Telstra - three Optus mobiles gives us 33g of data each month and a pre paid Telstra mobile modem which gives an extra 50g per year for use when Optus isnt available.

As we are in WA we have found that Optus is great in most towns but out on the road in the North West they arent that good. If we know that we will be in an area that is not well covered by Optus we will pick up a couple of Telstra pre paid sims and that normally does the trick.

Aldi, Boost etc are NOT on the full Telstra network

Craig we were with Optus a few years back, very ordinary with limited coverage, switched both of our phones to Telstra, vast improvement, have never looked back.

The OP asked for opinions, Optus v Telstra, Boost wasn't mentioned.

I favour Telstra and have used it all over Oz.

As far as coverage is concerned the maps posted by Rocky Lizard tell the story pretty convincingly.

Never ceases to amaze me just how self righteous some get on this forum, even when proven to be in error, perhaps it's an age thing. biggrin
