Spring In North East Victoria -Part 2

Murray River Indi Reserve (768x1024).jpg

After a great week exploring the Alpine areas near Bright we departed Freeburgh Caravan Park, not before indulging in a gourmet meal of Rainbow Trout that we caught at Harrietville Trout Farm (the cheats way) accompanied by a local Gapsted Wines dry red. Whoops, the shot above is the Murray at Indi Bridge. laughing.gif laughing.gif

We again travelled the winding back roads through to Tallangatta & further on beyond Corryong to Indi Bridge Reserve beside the headwaters of the Murray River. The reserve is a delightful free camp & the ''mighty Murray'' is just a fairly narrow babbling alpine stream, a great location to relax & let the cares of the world melt away.

After a few pleasant days of not really doing much at all we moved on less than 20kms to Towong Reserve (free camp) just over the bridge in NSW on the Tumbarumba road. The river was significantly larger at this location as a few other streams had joined it including Snowy Mountains Hydro water. The views of a snow covered Mt Kosciusko were fabulous on our morning walk. The birdlife was prolific also. We also walked to the Towong Racecourse (the Flemington of the bush) where the 1984 Pharlap movie was filmed. The historic grandstand was beautiful.

Our next destination was Walwa where we stayed at the immaculately clean & very friendly caravan park once again beside the river which was much larger, deeper & slower moving as we headed down stream.

Our next destination, Jingellic on the NSW side of the Murray once again. Having a lovely quiet relaxing trip.

Nice report on the Upper Murray and stunning photos. We will have to go up there with the van. Haven't been up there since our mid twenties in our 2 stroke Suzuki 4WD with tent and kayaks. Rod.
