wycliff well

Recently back from our first big trip melb to Darwin then Kakadu down the east coast and one of the places we stopped on the stuart HWY wycliff well looks like it was once a very nice park to stop and now soooo run down and place falling apart sad to see .. anyone remember the place in its hey day ?  Once had a lake train rides and huge café at the back which is now falling apart and inside gutted.

Not much of a souvenir shop and park needs a huge clean up ! atleast we had the place to ourselves !!!

We stopped there 2 years ago.  Was run down then but spent a good 3 days on green grass, getting the washing done and visiting devils marbles.  Enjoyed ourselves and they had a special of 3 nights for $50.

We were there in 1999 and it was thriving. We were entertained in the large shed and had damper and tea. I dont believe the lake was ever completed, it was an ongoing dream. I remember every wall and even garbage bin was painted with extraterrestrial beings. It was a very unusual place.
We bought fuel there last year and it is now run by people from India as many roadhouses seem to be these days.

Yes we were there march 2017 still run by Indians plenty of people buying fuel no one staying at sites ! its a shame to visualise what the place was once like and seeing it now .. .. obviously no effort made in maintaining the place grass not cut etc . Was asked if we would liketo book a dinner !! no thanks lol . lots of aborigines outside the place carrying on shouting and screaming ! maybe that's why the place fell apart . must admit bit on edge when trying to sleep .

Hi Goldenyears,
stayed there in 2010, first trip in new van. first night we stopped, they had opening night for the new chinease restaurant. food was simple but great. in the morning we had a train ride around the lake and the guy was telling us all about his dream for this place. been past twice since then on trips but never stopped, didnt need fuel. Another icon bites the dust.....
