Buying 200 landCruiser have question

Hi

Looking for some input from owners of 200 LandCruiser now that the van is ordered know our limit we can spend on Tug. Looking at a new 2017 GLX or 2015 to 2013 VX or Sahara with km between 80k to 140k from what I am seeing on the internet the second hand are to dear compare to the deals being done on new but have not tried to talk to dealers as cant buy until the farm settles end of November.

Question: As a farmer I have always steered away from too much computer on machinery. I have heard that the upgrade in September 2015 had some problems but is this with the top range one with all the bells and whistles. One I was told if the windscreen need replacing it went into crash mode and had to go back to Toyota. Now I think this would be a pain but am I being a princess as the wet weather this week in QLD would be worse.

Love some input from owners who have upgraded.

David,

we don't own the 200 series, but wanted to just highlight one thing to you.

Whatever you decide, I suggest the first thing you do is look at load available for you in the Landcruiser (GVM less Tare). Then add up the weight of the vans tow ball weight, you and the wife, fuel, bull bars, roof bars, drawers, fridge, dogs etc and anything else you want to carry in the car. Then see if it is all going to fit. I wouldn't decide on a car until I knew what I was loading and if it can carry it.

As a guide, we have a 100 series Standard (now the 200 GX). Our vehicle, due to it's reduced inclusions, has a load available from tare of just over 900 kg, and we use it all nearly. The same model GLX has a load allowance of 685 kg, or 220 kg less. If we had a GLX we would struggle to take what we want/need each trip.

Whatever you decide, good luck.

Mackayak,
I have a 200 series diesel it is now 7 years old. I first used it to go offroad with a camping trailer then 3 years ago upgraded to an offroad 3.5 tonne GVM caravan. I upgraded the 200 series suspesion at the same time with the Lovells 3.8t GVM still 3.5t towing.
This covers the weight of the tow hitch and all the fruit on the tug. It also allows the tug to be heavier than the van which helps safety.
I will eventually buy a new 200 series (or by then 300 series maybe!)it will be fitted with the Lovells 4 Tonne tow kit from new and most likely I will buy the GX base model as I have other cars to use when not towing.
I can high recommend the 200 series for towing any van up to 3.5tonne. It is a great tug. It is very stable has power to spare, its very reliable, can be serviced all over Australia in many country locations, its fits into shopping centre carparks just and the wife likes driving it.

Hello David.

I have a 2013 GXL and sold the "holden ute" as part of the deal with the wife.

I miss the ute , but the Cruiser is without a doubt the best car I have ever owned.

The van is 2.2 ton, and always tow in cruise @100km`s/hr.

Its just a magical combination.

Great power, comfort, ride height and a pleasure to drive.

Fuel consumption; average 18 lts/100. (worst has been 23 into a screaming head wind)

Without the van, 11.2 ltr`s/100.

"Buy one"

And my wife loves driving it, she feels safer.

Regards.

Hetho

Hi David,

We brought a TTD200 GX in Dec 2012.

The plan was to use it for work till I retired in May 2016.Then semi retire her with us to do only towing on all our trips away towing. We do a lot of towing. She has 105,305km on the clock.

Tight as a drum still. We have done three trips to Exmouth WA from Sydney 10,800km return, towing D boat @1900kg x 2 and D Van @2600kg x1. SA Eyre Peninsular x 4 with boat.

It is the very best of the best for long distance towing without stress on both truck and driver.

The money we saved buying the GX, We spent on ARB Bull Bar and side rails with steps for D wife. Plus the 152lt Fuel cell that is fitted under the custom made floor in the rear = 290lt total maximum allowable in the GX when full. And Millard cargo Barrier and fridge slide. With the rear seats gone (106kg)An extra 12 cargo tie down points in the rear and coil right air bags fitted. She makes for us, a great long distance touring tow truck. I replaced both sets of interior light globes with plug in 48 led lamps in each. turns night into day. E Bay $4.26 each.biggrinbiggrinbiggrin

The barn doors are a god send, compared to our old Toyota Parado's rear single door.

The GX has the same Motor, Same six speed sports shift Transmission / transfer case, 5 speed crawl, Cruse control, Blue tooth,radio/cd player, eight air bags etc  and ladder frame with built in tow bar as the top of the range model. Plus the big snorkel.  Except it was $45,000 cheaper then the Sarhra.

Tyr doing all that in the GLX, VX, or the Sarhra.

Now that leaves lots of coin in ones pocket, after adding all the fruit.winkwinkwinkwink Flash or Cash.confuse Ill kept the Cash thanks.biggrinbiggrinbiggrin.

Jim

Hi Mackayak you don't say wether you are looking at the wagon or the ute but have you considered some thing like this Hino at around $65,000 plus on road they will be considerably less than a cruiser , any way just a thought .

Hadn't noticed the different in payload will need to look into it as a first timer not thinking of much in tug as I upgrade the axles and othere thing on van so have 800kg pay load so most things hope to be in van. Bass the DMax was my second chose but the reason you say change my mind hope to see you on the road as I love kayak fishing for any thing.

David. My son in law is a high volume car wholesaler of 12 to 18 month old vehicles he can never get enough of GXL s .When he does he gets top price by sending them to WA. Plus the fact that the private sector do not sell them quickly as why would they want to ! When my Tattslotto numbers come up I will buy one in a heartbeat bugger the consumption ! Out of curiosity I did an Insurance quote online recently .I have a 2012 Pajero Activ it costs me $420 and is ins for $29 k.I asked online for a $95K new GXL and the Ins was $583 !! I could suffer that .Cheers

David (Mackayak), all the information you need is here:
LCOOL.ORG.
We live in Casino and you are more then welcome to come around or meet somewhere to look at ours.
After having run a performance chip for nearly 3 years with great satisfaction, I recently had the ECU
remapped/reflashed to a custom map.
Result is the car is a lot more responsive, makes the chip decidedly agricultural and fuel consumption
lower again (under10l/100km) not towing. The remap is specific for towing - more torque down low
Regards,
Larry

Hi Mackayak
We have a 2012 VX for sale listed on Gumtree and BushTracker forum. It is already set up to tow with a full Old Man Emu suspension upgrade, including GVM upgrade. We are in Queensland. PM if interested!
