No wonder 'urban myths' proliferate and are perpetuated through forums and word-of-mouth campfire bravado.
I have found that every item I have bought from Aldi over the many years - from food to Work Zone tools and appliances etc - have proven to be reliable and excellent value. I have never regretted any purchase.
But ya jest may be rite ... ... I am the only one who has had such 'luck' in my dealings with them.
Of course, DD, I have to accept you and your acquaintances have 100% opposite experiences to mine.

My Aldi story is mixed. The electric shaver didn't last long (and never produced a good shave anyway), the motor in the electric toothbrush seized after a month, and the DVD recorder burned 50 DVDs and then produced coasters.
I'm getting a fridge this weekend. Wish me luck.
BTW, that bread was expensive.

I agree with Rockylizard all Aldi purchases have been absolute best in quality - One small exception was a 12Volt vacuum cleaner wouldn't suck a piece of confetti, totally useless. When I took it back to Aldi no hassles in getting refund - Manager said they had had a few returned for same reasons.
I've bought Clothes, tools, TV's, Generators, Runners, even an awning for previous van - All top quality.

The good thing is, if not happy for ANY reason, take item back for a no fuss exchange or refund.
their razors were good for growing a beard, their mince was 50% liquid, bloody good secaturs a couple of weeks ago, great queen flannelette sheets. it's just such a pain to have to take anything back to anyone. Why do we really need so much Chinese C*******P though. cheers Craig
Bunnings have one big advantage over Aldi at the moment we're renovating our home,and what we require for that job Aldi would be able to supply nothing,it's just great to go too a store that has absolutely everything,for the job,if we need materials,we order more than required and simply take what we don't use back for a full refund,Aldi is great for food and the odd trinket.
I was only saying earlier this week to D wife That Bunnings should invite the likes of Super Cheap Auto and Repco to setup shop in their car park / spare lots on the same mega block they own in the next suburb. To save me traveling around.
Well bugger me. Bunnings were setting up in store today their own Auto section. Yes please, bring it On.
I find Aldi no difference than other large shops/supermarkets Except that they only stock the stuff that sells quickly, so there is less variety to choose from
I have only had one item fail, I was using a screwdriver advertised as for electrical screws only, which broke a piece off the end As I was using it as a mini jemmy bar at the time it broke, I classed it as self inflicted damage, and just filed another flat on it
I recently purchased a 40 litre compressor chest fridge for $499 or thereabouts I have never seen any other fridge this cheap, in any other shop, in my local area
Normally I don't shop at Aldi but as my brother works as a manager in one of their Sydney stores I sometimes ask him to put an item from one of their catalogues aside for me. For instance I asked him to grab us 2 of the fold up bush bikes the next time that they came in which he delivered to my wife last week. As I'm in Oman I will have to wait until I get home on some R&R in a couple of weeks time to take them out the box and assemble them but what we have bought from them in the past has been pretty good quality and about half the price of their competition. I bought a large suitcase for $30 a few months ago and it has now been through the rigour of 5 international flights and still looks good which is more than I can say for some of the bigger name brands that I have paid a lot of money for in the past. Not sure I would do my grocery shopping at Aldi as I still like Woolies, I know the brands and where everything is - besides my wife works for them so we both get the staff discount card.
Just what you need too, the tent to go camping, a chainsaw to prepare the wood for the camp fire, the camp fire to toast the bread and the trumpet to let everyone know you toasted the bread to perfection!.
And I can't walk out of an Aldi Store without buying some nick nack to make my life easier. Now all they need to come up with is a can of Whinger Repelant or Anti Knocker Spray to compliment my tool box.

Very true Rusty. Apart from good pricing, thats another reason I shop there.
