gas hot water operation

Just come back from Tassie after purchasing a 2008 Jayco Conquest.  Everything good except I'm not sure about operation of the gas hot water service and how to get it going.  It's built into a cupboard by the ensuite.  Does it run off gas bottles or does it have it's own gas?

Have books but can't find anything on it.

Helen

slightly off topic, but our gas/electric hot water system suddenly stopped working and kept blowing the vans RCD - after 3 long investigations by an electrician he faulted the van being we couldn't use 204v power.

The manufacturer, Supreme, were totally unhelpful (it was a little less than 2 years old at that time), so I phoned Swift - the hot water manufacturer. VERY helpful - told me it was likely the country scheme water had probably stuffed up the element and promptly sent me out both a new element and total gas heater module with their owners mobile phone number telling me to phone 24/7 if I needed help in replacing. Obviously also told me the tricks to replacement and written instructions with the parts.

About a 15 min job to replace both. The element was totally clogged up. Now the gas and electrics work on the hot water cylinder and likewise the 240v power.

As mentioned previously; it runs from the main gas bottles.

Bruce and Bev:

So a qualified electrician could not diagnose a fault in the element of a hot water system! And, because of his incompetence, issued a fault notice against your van!? I hope you didn't pay him any money.

Hi Mike. Yes I did pay him. Fortunately only about $50 for three visits to where I was.

I would have used an auto-electrician probably, but none of those guys like to site visit.

One of the major problems with vans is they run wiring in construction in the shortest route possible to save money and apparently that's why they wont give you a wiring diagram. The 240v supply for the hot water system was a standard 3 pin plug type which was hidden in a bedside cupboard and we weren't aware it was even there.
