Calling on your extensive knowledge...

Okay guys and girls, here is the rub

We have just sold our house and we are doing a move from Townsville NQ to Tasmania...

We will be towing our van to Melbourne, commencing the 25th of August.

We are not setup for off the grid as yet, so we will be utilising Caravan Parks with powered sites..

We will be travelling with our little dog

We will be taking approximately 8 days @ average distance of 400 to 500 km per day (wife is doing Uni, so will need down time to study etc)

We have Wikicamps already but looking for personal recommendations as a first course of action and utilise in conjunction with Wikicamps to assess suitable locations

Below is our intended Itinerary for the trip, so any help with pet friendly caravan parks at these locations would be of great assistance..

Day 1 - Townsville to Mackay

Day 2 - Mackay to Rockhampton

Day 3 - Rockhampton to Childers (no park needed visiting family for parkup)

Day 4 - Childers to Toowoomba

Day 5 - Toowoomba to Narrabri

Day 6 -Narrabri to Parkes

Day 7 -Parkes to Numurkah  (treading in the footstep of my grandmother)...

Day 8 - Numurkah to Melbourne (Tasman Ferry)

The reason that we say look to those sources for your trip is because everybodies idea of a good spot is different. I say stop somewhere and you do and it wasn't what you wanted. You wanted a shower and toilet for instance and I recommended the spot because it had fantastic scenery. Every bodies choices are different so read up and decide for yourself and as you drive be prepared to throw the itinerary in the bin because you find a fantastic spot . Dave

 Here Doghouse.

I would subjest you may like to look at some showgrounds. Quick in and quick out with no fuss with pen sites.

Toowoomba. I really can not remember the amenities apart from being clean and quite, a couple years have past. Caravan parks in the city were very tight, not encouraging.

Before Toowoomba is Crows Nest Caravan Park, it is a few years since I personally stayed there also, have heard still a goodie.

Narrabri Shoground, yes good for an overnighter. Not flash but clean and quite. This year we stayed there.

Parkes and Forbes Showground have not used, Forbes I think is worth a real look as I have stayed near the showground this year and it looks promising with the town and shops walking distant away, a couple of big super markets with good prices. Don't forget about the no go zone with fruit and veg though the fruit fly area and going to Tasmania.

I see you are staying at Childers, just a thought would it not be worth looking at going via Biggenden, Kingaroy, Dalby, Moonie and down into NSW.

On this road Kingaroy Showground, good for an overnighter, once again have not used only our friends stay there for medical appointments. Bell Caravan park looks ok, was planning to use but I got side tracked at a freeby outside of town instead but it did look good from the road. Great pub up in town serve great bush food a short walk away.

Hope my thoughts are of some help.

Hi

Maybe a good idea to place this enquiry in the general section also, you just might get more help on this one with fresh ideas about people experiences.

Not many people look in here.

Hi there. Double D caravan Park in Peak Hill NSW (48.5k north of Parkes) is a pet friendly caravan park. We stayed there in April and although we don't have a pet others there did. $27 for 2 people, one of the best camp kitchens I've ever come across, free pancake breakfast, free windscreen wash in the morning, clean amenities and a doggy day spa for washing and grooming your pet along with towels and doggy bites for them.

Have a look under the "Travelling with Pets" section and see if there is anything there and type in Pet Friendly Caravan Parks or similar in the "Search" box at the top of the forum and you may find something there also.

Plus, if you are following your GPS to find the ferry terminal I remember reading somewhere about a low clearance overhead railway bridge you may need to avoid.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Cheers.

CAW 9 does not have much in the way of caravan parks. If you want a book for parks then get the companion Caravan Parks Australia Wide. CAW is what we use to find rest stops with dunnies.

The website I like for preplanning is Garry Strattons MyParksList. It produces maps with red and green pins. You want the green pins (doe friendly.) Just click on the pins for more info.

Rather than Toowoomba I suggest Crows Nest Caravan Park. My next one would be @ Moree - Gwydir CP - particularly if you are considering Peak Hill. Enjoy the hot pools at Gwydir to relax you as most of your hops after that are long ones.

For strictly overnight ? I've never had issues outside Elect sub stations . Or Bunnings etc car parks . There are MANY service stations that have parking for trucks etc too .
