I'm sure many of you have had the unpleasant experience of using the weird and disgusting dump site at Yulara - Uluru village but just in case you have not had that pleasure, this is what you will find. Firstly the caravan park has everything including cabins and all the good stuff and a great Overflow parking area that is very popular.
What they don't have however is a dump site.....
yes a dump site..... the unmentionable necessity that we all rely on and need. So you have to travel 2 ks out of town to an industrial site and then drive up and onto what looks like a weigh station. Where's the dump site? it's under a heavy metal plate with a chain handle right in the middle of the ramp.....go figure!! Now lift the plate and discover a large hole protected by a piece of wire mesh that has worked very well indeed!! It has protected everyone's black waste from going down the hole and the end result is a disgusting foul mess that can not be removed downwards.
So it's on with the gloves and many handfuls of joy into plastic bags, then binned. Yes... that was my only option if I was to be successful with my load!!
Now this is my gripe...... this is the only dump in town for hundreds of campers and it is .....
NOT GOOD ENOUGH people!!
If there is such a thing as a council in this money making red dust paradise, then get yourselves together and solve this very real problem.
Have you contacted the authorities there? I don't think there is a local council as such, but there would be a town administration that maintains the village area.
That would be the best way to get something done at this location. There are a lot of restrictions on what can be done development wise in Yulara, and so they would be somewhat limited.
If people don't contact them, they won't know about these problems, and things won't change.
I expect the restrictions are the reason that caravan park doesn't have a dump point, as the town probably want to keep services like this near the works depot where it is currently situated.
At least they do have a dump point! And yes, we have used it a number of times.
PS - The problem re the mess you faced is really caused by the "people" who used the dump point before you, and decided to leave it for others to clean up!

Chaos, mayhem, confusion. Good my job here is done
I have experienced such situations at several locations around Oz. Particularly in the peak season up north (WA). Once I sent an email to a local shire and received a pathetic response "it's the mining and exploration companies using them" Give me a break. Anyhow as I refuse to use "untidy" dump points my solution is the same as if there is not one available i.e. make my own and dispose of contents. At least I only have to smell our own stuff.
My feeling is that Ayres Rock (Yulara) does not want casual tourists driving in. They want the big spenders flying in and out and the organised tours from the Alice.
We were in the overflow parking area a couple of weeks ago, $20 per night, lots of room no restrictions where to go.
Water is available from one tap free.
As for the dump point it was put in originally for the coaches we were told, also never had a problem with washing everything down with the hose which was on the pole next to the hole.

Hi dolly Cant understand why you needed a dump point, when the only places you can stay at Yulara, all have toilets. The dump point you used was designed for coaches to empty their LOAD.. Cheers Daz

I would not presume to answer for Dolly, but in our situation we bought a caravan with an ensuite for the specific reason for my wife not to have to use on site toilets. Personal choice.
