Info on road into Eighty Mile Beach WA

Sandy road is fine . We found keeping speed to 40 to 50 kph was smooth . Over that the sand or ripples of sand in front of wheels caused harmonics through body . A few 4WD, caravans passed us . The vans where bouncing all over the place ..The road itself is quite good .. seems the sand builds up in front of tyres then rolls over causing a bump or vibration through body.. Keep an eye on the speed you'll be fine ,,

Huge amount of vans go in there. I've always thought that road to always well graded by the CP owners. Possibly every week in the high season

just be aware that they do not take bookings. Turn up in the morning and they allocate sites as people leave.

They do say if you don't get power today, you will get it the next day. We were there last July and were lucky as we got a power site the day we arrived. We had stopped overnight at the Nita Downs rest area on the way down from Broome so we got into 80 Mile about morning tea time.

I think it is worth a couple of nights as a stop with a nice park and common area that they have a market on each week (forget day), and had some music the day we were there for the market.

The road in was fine at 60 kms as we drove in. We have a dirt road van.

I think markets are Wednesday .. We stayed a week .. Top place .. I would go back .. Although 5000k + from home ..

Pardoo roadhouse is an option as is Pardoo station, but at Eighty Mile beach its just a short walk over the sand dunes to the beach if you are interested

This is a Google Maps Street view of the road . This map shows it to be around 9 km from the highway.

We were there last September the road in and out two weeks later was good . Any car or van can get to eighty if it's dry but be careful in the wet. The road gets closed if it's to wet. Great caravan park and very well maintained.And the fishing is fantastic

Was in there last week , road was ok , a bit corregated in a couple of patches but generally good.

Villa . Yes we stopped over at Pardoo station . Extended our time . Pool and restaurant was great !! One point at 80 mile beach is the amenities . They are great ! But I used the woman's section for two days even showered !! Till I told another lady she was in the wrong side ., Then I realised !! Oops !! Lol

we are probably a bit biased about Pardoo as we worked there for nearly 7 mths in 2013 and our grand daughter Lucy worked there in 2012 and also did another 6 mths there last year

Pardoo , 80 mile beach and Mataranka are the standouts of our trip .

Is 80 mile better than Barn Hill, plan on being up there in a few weeks time. I was under the impression Barn Hill was THE place to go.

BB. both are worth a look then it,s your choice . Both have powered sites which might not be avaiable on the day of arrival ( no bookings at either), the unpowered Genset areas IMHO are the areas to go not so cramped and with solar these days running the genny is very limited. As a Caravan park 80 mile is best but Barnhill has a rustic appeal well for me any way .You can drive on the beach at 80 mile for miles but B/hill it,s walking on a better beach and the rock colours and formations at B/hill are awesome .When the fish are on both places are good .Roads in are very simialar with 80mile graded more often than B/hill but both very doable in a black top van just dont go to quick

I heard recently that Main Roads W.A. were in the process of starting to seal this stretch of road,

It appears that has not happened as yet,

I have Emailed MR of WA for any info and will post it here, if and when it comes to hand.

Sealed? Can't see it ever happening. The entire road in including the caravan park is on private land (huge pastoral lease). The WA government is not going to spend mega-dollars on what is effectively someone's driveway.

Not classified any different to the road into and including the Bungle Bungle Range (aka Purnululu). All on private land.

I cant comment on eighty mile beach but we did stay at Pardoo station, great sites, and also at the council run park at Onslow, by far the best park we have stayed at, brilliant sites, great campers kitchen, lovely hosts Rob and Lorraine, and will definitely stay longer next time.
