Hi All .

I'm going to make a fire tub/place /kettle or what ever you want to call it .

Using an old 9kg gas cylinder , I've researched all the aspects of emptying it safely and filling with water prior to cutting .

Wondering if anyone has pics of what they may have made or had made or just outright purchased.

i've seen them with doors and lids , all sorts of elaborate designs . 

Any pics or advice would be appreciated

Gday...

This is my liddle fireplace. Only a 4.5Kg gas bottle - but I carry it in the vehicle and didn't have enough space for a 9Kg one and I travel solo so it does me pretty good.

G'day mezza56, This is our cooker. The legs and chimney all pull apart and store inside the cylinder. There is a mesh grill on top or a solid plate when we want to use it just for warmth. We made a square door as it allows a double jaffle iron to pass through it. If you go this style make sure you use a 2.5" to 3" pipe for your chimney so it draws well. Happy travels.

Just be careful . I had a 19kg tank I washed with water etc . When I welded an air fitting to it with taps etc off . It went off like a jet for about 10 seconds . Even tho I washed it out and was empty for about 10 years . I use the tank now for my compressor when painting etc .

I have not tried it (YET) but have been told that a good way to make a gas bottle safe it to shove it in a fire or a fire around it.... local gas refill place always has a 6 feet high heap of burnt bottles, but have not seen him light them up.... have seen the results of welding/cutting attempted on water filled bottles or inert gas filled, (& fuel tanks) too many injuries. Might just buy a burnt one from the gas bloke....

 

Baz was yous made from a 9kg or from a car LPG tank... looks fatter than a 9kg but very neat.

 These are generally referred to as "choofers." If you wish to do more research on line then use that term. Others call them pigs but beware that the mob who make the Ozpig have the name registered and have clamped down on others using the name pig.
