for $25 I'd expect power and water on site, level ground, plenty of clean showers and toilets, dump point - many smaller privately owned CPs have all these and kitchens/TV room and charge the same.

Does this place have the same facilities?

Poor old caravan cop heaps from time to time but I don't think show-ground are valve for money and don't provide anywhere near what the basic caravan park offers .

Fraser Regional Council are so Neandrethal in their thinking and Kow-tow to the CP owner's Bloc in Hervey Bay to the detriment of other businesses.

Everywhere in their area there are No Camping Signs and the very few places you can Freedom camp. Those are often hard to get to or very few and far between.

Despite Council saying they want to attract tourists to the area (They have spent hundreds of thousands of Taxpayers dollars promoting the Wide Bay) they do not want people Freedom camping despite the facts showing they spend with local businesses.

They do however attract lots of Backpackers to the area with quite a few Backpacker Hostels in Hervey Bay itself.

Quite a contrast seeing people turn up at the Hervey Bay Coach Station with backpacks and someone turning up in A caravan and rig or Motorhome costing many thousands of dollars.

Think about it a Backpacker for a week. Food and drink and some sightseeing. Motorhomer or van and rig. Same idea see the tourist sights and food and drink. Plus fuel and extras. All the other businesses that they support with their custom

What's the difference. You have it, lobbying from a few Hostel owners and Caravan Park operators.

Stuff all the other businesses that also have to pay taxes and pay for the council to promote the area, But they get no benefit from freedom campers who would buy and support their businesses.

I go along with you re the fees showgrounds see fit to charge.

In fact in many of the towns the showground offer is in direct competition to the local caravan park/s.

Any wonder they do not encourage free camping.

Torbanlea is $5 per vehicle unpowered per night - if you want a shower - and extra $5 per shower = $10 per night. Not a bad spot.

The caravan park lobby are fairly active around Qld. They are having big success at getting various show and sport ground committees to lift their prices to "economic rates." The first casualty was at Barcaldine a few years ago. The park lobby had the government step in and the economic rates for the show ground there was determined to be the same as the cheapest caravan park in town. Probably the same thing has happened at Torbanlea. Don't blame the show ground trust without finding out what has transpired. Does anyone out there know the real reason for the price hike?

It not only Queensland last year when we went south we found the same thing in NSW showgrounds only about $5 a night cheaper than the basic country caravan park and some like Gulargambone caravan park the same price has showgrounds .
